Meet the wonderful and bizarre Orange Porecap. Or the Ping-Ping Bat fungus. 🧡
Orange Porecap, Favolaschia claudopus This beautiful mushroom is a global traveller with origins in Madagascar, but now spread around the world. Seemingly invasive in some places, such as NZ, it was first found in Cornwall, UK in 2012. Since then it’s spread around and is now a feature in nearly all woods I go in on the south coast. Unclear yet whether it is an unwelcome arrival, but its bizarre and wonderful geometry means I always enjoy finding it on the woodland floor where I often find it on wind blown twigs.

Hey #FungiFriends: Here's why you always cut the mushroom in half and examine its internal structure before consumption.

This could be some non-edible Amanitas, but without inspection, it closely resembles an edible puffball.
