Conservatives are the people still led by the amygdala. And if you look at their behavior it is plain to see. How they are labeled as big children, this is because that is exactly what they are from a developmental sense. That is why they are "triggered" and get emotional and why they love memes.

That isn't as easy as it might seem. One first has to admit they are wrong. Then set about the task of learning all the right stuff. So it is a somewhat painful process and it happens over time. It is this switch that separates conservatives and progressives.

For me that took place in my 30's while attending college. I did fine at the local community college but when I went to the university for my bachelors I was challenged a great deal more. It was during this time that I was confronted with I was not as smart as I thought I was.

The transition for most of us is so difficult that if we can survive with our brain operating with the amygdala in control, we just won't make the transition. We live our lives with that one, primitive part of the brain leading us around like a ring in a bulls nose and we don't even realize it.

But as we develop we are supposed to be challenged enough that other parts of our brain take over. For most adults that is the frontal lobe. It is comprised of several parts of the brain that help us reason things out. This transition from one part of the brain leading to another is not easy.

So when we are born it is one of the more developed parts of the brain so it takes the lead. It keeps leading us all through adolescence as other parts of our brains develop. Kind of like a room full of people and how one of them is the loudest and take control.

In short as we develop as a fetus, one of the first parts of the brain to develop is the amygdala. It is responsible for things like fight and flight and basic emotional responses like crying. Makes sense right? We need to cry to communicate w our world.

I was hoping to share my thoughts on the differences between conservatives and progressives and how we got here and how we can get out of it.

Hey all, like many I left X As soon as he bought it. I'm an atheist and progressive so as you can imagine, it wasn't really my environment.
