Government is hard. Talk about tax and currency

There's some sleight of hand on the part of the anti-Labour left in discussions of the lifting of the two-child cap. They like to pretend that the Labour government has *opposed* lifting it for 16 months, when in reality Labour consistently said it *wanted* to lift it but couldn't *afford* to.

A question. What is the best way of fixing the economy quickly and how?

Evolve Politics:
Estate agents are legally required to verify the source of funds in property purchases.

Nigel Farage’s partner bought the £900k Clacton home in cash.

If Farage is the source of funds, and HMRC prove he’s the true beneficial owner, he’s evaded Stamp Duty.

That’s tax evasion.

A quick question. Who should pay more tax and how much?

Will the u turn about raising income tax, VAT or NI be received as well as the winter fuel u turn?

A question. Which taxes should go up / be put in place to pay for all the free stuff which we should be giving people. Timescales must be considered.

Grim yet unsurprising insight into being a woman in politics episode 3852…

We need parties, press, and political institutions to step up and tackle misogyny in politics before we burn through another generation of women politicians

A note about defence spending. If we are all going to be protected, then we all have to accept that some form of payment is necessary. If it means slightly higher taxes, then so be it.

"How on earth could Reform UK gain support in Scotland?" ask the "Scotland is a progressive beacon" people who have steadfastly refused to acknowledge any polling evidence that didn't fit their worldview for the past 15 years.

Correct. On both counts
Scottish Water is in public hands due to the might of strathclyde regional council and Des McNulty being a bit of a dude

🥀 Labour is making a mess in England - don’t let them get their hands on Scotland’s water!

Has to be said.
'What puzzles me is that some (or one,) of my colleagues think there's a pain-free way to fix things quickly and that, somehow or other, we can return to the true path to swift economic happiness if we just moved the Chancellor on.'

Six months into being an MP, I have experienced a range of emotions: satisfaction from helping a constituent, pride in voting into law ground-breaking legislation,…

What would the Labour Government's detractors within Labour do? We may not like some of the Reeves changes, but are they necessary? If we are honest we know the answer

I see Starmer's unpopularity is being compared to Corbyn's. Can I gently point out that Starmer won an election, so has the hard choices to make. Corbyn didn't so hasn't

While we're talking about pension lies. No, the United Kingdom would not pay the state pensions of people living in a newly independent Scotland and this remains the case no matter how often the SNP pretends otherwise.

So there's a big protest today against landowners not getting as big an exemption from inheritance tax as they would like. I support the rights of millionaires to protest, even as many of them seek to deny that right to others, but let's be clear - that's who this change affects: millionaires only.
