Scotland: we need to vote our way out of this rotten Union before the next UK election or we’ll live to regret it

There's no way for unionists to put a positive spin on the latest #Indyref2 Norstat poll. Even with the No voting figures boosted by 2014 weighting, Yes leads by 7 pts. The unweighted sample has Yes more then 20 pts ahead. And when we reweight to take away the 2014 No bias, Yes leads by 14 pts.

If we look at the #Indyref2 breakdown by socio-economic group, it's clear the increase in Yes support comes from the ABC1 groups. These are professional, skilled and higher-educated voters; those most likely to dislike Farage. Support among C2DE (which includes retired people)remains split.

Another factor in the recent Yes boost appears to come from an uplift in female support. Yes support among females has dropped since Nicola Sturgeon resigned, but the latest poll shows a majority of women backing Yes. Support among males is also sustained.

Adding that latest poll to my series of demographically reweighted polls, it's clear that Yes is trending towards widening its lead.

The argument about whether #Indyref2 polls should be weighted by 2014 vote or not won't really matter for much longer. As time marches on, even the 2014-weighted polls are trending towards a majority Yes. We'll only be debating the scale of the Yes lead.
These are polls over the past 12 months.

If it’s this close on a 2014 weighted poll (assuming it is). Then that will mean a 3 to 4 point Yes lead ( guesstimate).
New Scottish Independence poll, Survation 16-22 Apr (changes vs 1-15 Nov):

No ~ 46% (-1)
Yes ~ 44% (nc)
Don't Know ~ 9% (-1)

Excluding Don't Knows (/ vs 2014):
No ~ 51% (-1 / -4)
Yes ~ 49% (+1 / +4)

Ahhhhhhh, ROUNDING!

(Again note *yet another* difference in comparator, not asked for a while!)

On the back of that recent #Indyref2 poll, important to remember that polls which don't weight by the 2014 result are trending at 53% Yes, compared to 48.5% among those which do apply that 11 year old weighting.

Having started 2024 10 pts ahead, UK Labour finished the year 18 pts behind the SNP.
