Snuffle Mats are great in your behavior modification journey!

They give your dog something to focus on when exciting things happen (instead of barking) & allows them to forage during their meals.

Resource guarding is complex & takes many forms, but shoving your hand in a dog's food bowl or taking their stuff (even if you give it back!) won't help them.

Imagine if we taught people to share by repeatedly grabbing their free sample at Costco as they lifted it, then returning it. Terrible idea, right?

Then why put our hands in our dogs food bowl or take their stuff? It doesn't help resource guarding but it does create it

Small dogs lose so much autonomy, so easily from the start of their lives. It's easy to see why people believe 'small dog syndrome' is a thing (it's not). Most people don't listen until small dogs yell or snap.

Every moment we spend with our dog connecting is training, be it play, petting, or working on behaviors. They're always learning & so are we.

If you worry that training all day with your dog isn't fair, rethink what your training looks like.

Helping your dog build confidence starts with listening to them. Practice this with consent petting!

Pet your dog for 3 seconds then pull your hands back & stand still. Evaluate your dog & see how he reacts!

Does he come closer to you for more? Or does he look or move away?

If your dog is on a leash shorter than 6 feet, they don’t have a pulling problem, you do.

Using our Watch cue to look at deer! I usually start this with watching a moving toy and rewarding them with a toy from me or a tossed treat game! Then we move on to anything moving in the environment that my dog will notice! #ForceFreeDogTraining #RewardBasedDogTraining #FortunateFido #NEODogs

Does your dog bark out the window? How often do you reward them when there are no people or dogs outside for good window behavior? Looking outside? Looking away from the window? Moving away from the window? Lying down by the window? #neoreactivedogs #reactivedogs #rewardbasedtraining #rewardbehavior
