Spent an hour working out the damage and effect system for the game's battles, and it literally looks exactly the same because the results are identical to the hardcoded test values.
But now leveling up matters and unlocks new moves.
Time to put in some visuals I guess.

I just had a huge breakthrough in Godot-specific coding that I think made everything much easier. Alas, it's 1:30 AM, so I could also be delusional.
