I go through a lot of newspaper archives for my job, so I end up reading a lot of funny pages. This is a home for comic strips that have been forgotten, either because they fell out of the public memory, or because they were never that successful to begin with.

Non-fiction trivia comic strip "Pop Culture." A recounting of the early career of Billy Corgan and the founding of the Smashing Pumpkins. There's then a quiz asking to identify other famous Chicago acts from their hit songs.

Single panel comic strip "Funny Angles." Two siblings talk to another boy. The boy says, "One of you is lying. You say you have two brothers, and your sister says she has three!" Strip would change its name to "Emily and Mabel" partway through as twin spinster characters took over the strip.

Comic strip "Bear Creek Folks." A guy has a pig leashed and wrapped around a tree when his cousin from Greenland arrives, a small bear who only says "Ikky Buck". Then the first guy's son swats the pig in the rear, the pig runs off, knocking Pops down, who accidentally kicks his cousin from Greenland in the face, who responds by hitting him in the head with a brick and storming off. Got all that?

Comic strip "Half Hitch." A short sailor asks for a kiss from his date, but she says she doesn't kiss until the third date. As the sailor is shipping out tomorrow, he suggest they kiss now and he'll owe her two more dates. The character was originally created by "Dennis the Menace"'s Hank Ketcham during his time in the Navy in the 1940s.

December 7th, 1926 as seen in the News and Record
Comic strip "The Guiltiest Feeling." A young boy grills his father about Santa Claus. After his father can't explain the various feats of magic Ol' Saint Nick pulls off every Christmas, the boy laughs at his father and mocks him, the father sinking into his chair, exhausted. The comic strip was continued by "Miss Clare Briggs" following the original cartoonist's death in 1930.

Comic strip "Scoop the Cub Reporter." Scoop's boss gives him the task of means testing poor families who have signed up for a charity problem. He visits a young boy who didn't get any presents for Christmas last yet, and now aims to have a huge sack instead of a stocking to make up for it. Scoop is moved and opts to buy the boy a bunch of toys himself.

Limited run comic strip "Beauty and the Beast," based on the Disney animated film. Belle and Chip get excited for Christmas, while the Beast sulks behind a curtain. This strip ran for four weeks, and has no connection to 1997's "Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas."

22-part serialized comic strip "Christmas Every Day," an adaptation of the story by William Dean Howells. Christmas has come to February, and a mother and daughter walk about shopping. The mother mentions the story no longer sells chicken, just turkey, which the daughter is getting quite sick of.

Political comic strip "Pure Pork." Every strip is the same image of two pigs, Hilton Hogg and Paul Porcine, eating from a trough, their asses pointed towards up. Paul's party has just lost the election, and wants to make amends with Hilton. Hilton just wants to gloat. The strip was made by the then-mayor of small town Mountainburg, Arkansas.

Serialized comic strip "Otto the Cop." Otto and his friend Nap are rowing their way to the North Pole. Currently in Greenland, the two spot something in the distance. A whale? A rock? A submarine? Philip Potter began this strip at the age of 12 and ended it at the age of 15.

Comic strip "Trials of Editor Mouse." Editor Mouse sees Mrs. Toad hopping down the street, going on a shopping trip. He gives the story to Frog to put in the paper, but Frog accidentally prints "shopping trip" as "hopping trip." Mrs. Toad breaks into the newspaper audience and beats up Editor Mouse, thinking the paper is making fun of her. Editor Mouse beats up Frog in turn.

Comic strip "Goofey Movies." Oscar Buggs goes to the beach to try out his new boomerang. When it flies into some rocks, Oscar assumes he'll never get it back, but it turns out the boomerang hit Hiss the Snake, who throws it back, smacking Oscar in the back of the head.
