The EU’s 5-year #Ecodesign (#ESPR) work plan is out 🥳

But excluding footwear, plastics, paints & chemicals risks more #microplastics in the ocean. Every 👞 product 🛞 counts 🎨.

This chronic microplastic pollution from plastic manufacturers has to stop! Accidents are not the only source, most plastic production plants are also leaking their #plasticpellets into the surrounding environment!
📢 A collision between a container ship and an oil tanker has caused a massive spill of industrial plastic pellets across 30 km of coastline and into a protected bay. These microplastics, which persist in the environment indefinitely, pose a serious threat to marine life and ecosystems.

US president has come up with the bold action to reintroduce mandatory #singleuseplastic straws in federal offices when these had been phased out to fight marine pollution. This #americanwayoflife is fuelling #climatechange with 10 times more GHG per person when it could be part of the solution 🙃

C'est une excellente nouvelle, encore faut-il que le contenu de ce "pacte" soit étayé et assorti d'une série de propositions législatives urgentes, car en soit une communication n'engage que peu l'exécutif européen.

When trying to decide if a plastic cleanup technology is a good idea, ask yourself:

Would this work on land? Would dragging a net through a forest be a good idea?

If the answer is “no”, then it’s not a good idea in the ocean, either.
