I'm currently watching every single Star Trek episode in in-universe chronological order and posting my thoughts on every single one. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Currently in 2377 with VOY season seven. There's coffee in that nebula!
VOY S7E19, “Q2”: Q's son Q gets dropped off with his godmother to learn a lesson about humanity. Q stories aren't for everyone, but they are for me, and especially the episodes where they learn and grow thanks to their exposure to mortals. I also like Icheb, so this episode pushes all my buttons.

VOY S7E18, “Human Error": Seven fantasizes about a life in which she truly embraces her individuality, including Unethical Holo-Simulation of a Real Person #30. I absolutely haaaate the random last minute Seven/Chakotay ship. They have no chemistry, no real history, and The Vibes Are Incorrect.

VOY S7E17, “Workforce, Part II”: Efforts to get the crew home continue on multiple fronts. This one feels stronger than part I, with a lot of intertwining plot threads that all come together. It still seems like an odd choice for a two-parter, but at least the pacing is better.

VOY S7E16, “Workforce, Part I”: The crew of Voyager has had their memories suppressed and been dragooned into working at an alien power plant. Honestly kind of weird to me that this is a two-parter; it just doesn't feel like that big a story. It's okay, but a little slow-paced. Good cliffhanger.

My quest to watch all of Star Trek is a year old today, and I'm just over 80% done – 780 episodes! I've been speeding up a little bit lately – probably because watching Trek is easier than finding my SAD lamp, if I'm honest – so I'll probably finish sooner than I originally expected. It's been fun!

VOY S7E15, “The Void”: Voyager gets trapped in the titular void and must rely on their principles to escape. This is the prime example of what I call Federation Porn – just pure undiluted optimism about the value of peace and mutual aid, even in a situation that seems to demand selfishness. Love it.

VOY S7E14, “Prophecy”: Voyager encounters a Klingon generation ship that's looking for their savior, which might be B'Elanna's baby. (I mean, Klingon mystics do have access to time crystals, so it's not really a surprise when their prophecies work out, right?) A perfectly fine episode, not great.

VOY S7E13, “Repentance”: Voyager rescues a prison transport ship taking eight men to their executions. The big thing about this episode that bothers me is Neelix's subplot: he finds out Benkarens are disproportionally imprisoned and executed, an individual Benkaren tries to escape, and that's it.

VOY S7E12, “Lineage”: B'Elanna's pregnant, and it's stirring up some Feelings. Well, we can go ahead and add “reprogramming a coworker” to the list of Things That Won't Get You Kicked Out of Starfleet, but that aside, this is maybe my favorite Tom/B'Elanna episode so far.

VOY S7E11, “Shattered”: Listen: the starship Voyager has come unstuck in time. This episode is a merry romp through the history of the show, and arguably the best last season farewell of any Trek series. Certainly it knocks DS9's limp montages into a cocked hat. Delightful stuff.
November 14, 2025 at 2:46 AM
VOY S7E9/10, “Flesh and Blood”: The Hirogen have been enjoying the holodeck technology Voyager gave them, but their holo-prey have learned to fight back. This is our first AI Rights/AI Wrongs episode in a while, plus the Doctor discovers a whole new Thing That Won't Get You Kicked Out of Starfleet.
November 14, 2025 at 1:37 AM
VOY S7E8, “Nightingale”: Harry commands a ship for the first time, while Icheb misreads social cues. Y'know, there are a lot of autistic-coded characters in Trek, but Icheb might be one of the most blatant. Maybe that's why I like him so much. Anyway, Harry's plot is pretty good, if morally dubious.

VOY S7E7, “Body and Soul”: To protect the Doctor from hologram-hating aliens, Seven has to give him control of her body. A silly little episode that would be much stronger if at any point someone acknowledged the existence of queer people. Also, Red Dwarf did the same episode, but funnier.
November 13, 2025 at 5:53 PM
VOY S7E6, “Inside Man”: Voyager receives a transmission of a holographic Barclay, who has a plan to get them all safely home… or does he? I know I'm repeating myself, but why is Reg a professional holoprogrammer? He's a barely stable recovering holoaddict who relapsed like a year ago. Poor Deanna.
November 13, 2025 at 12:56 AM
VOY S7E5, “Critical Care”: The Doctor is kidnapped and forced to work in a hospital where the poor go untreated and only those with “important” jobs get care. This is pretty blatantly an indictment of the state of American healthcare 25 years ago, but surely it doesn't still apply today, right???
November 12, 2025 at 10:37 PM
VOY S7E2, “Imperfection”: When Seven's cortical node goes on the fritz, she must confront her own mortality. This is an almost entirely character-driven story, and at this point in the show all of the characters are so well developed that it works nigh-flawlessly. A powerful and moving episode.
November 12, 2025 at 9:27 PM
VOY S7E4, “Repression”: Someone is putting ex-Maquis crew members into comas, but who and why? Well, if you're anything like me, as soon as the Doctor mentions bruising on the right shoulder you're like, “oh, so it's Tuvok,” but in fairness the why part does take a little longer to become clear.
November 12, 2025 at 4:36 AM
VOY S7E3, “Drive”: Tom enters the Delta Flyer in a race instead of going on a romantic getaway with B'Elanna. My stamina for Tom being an inconsiderate manchild is low, and that's a lot of the episode. I also don't love when shows have a relationship on the rocks that then gets immediately resolved.
November 11, 2025 at 3:54 AM
VOY S7E1, “Unimatrix Zero, Part II”: Janeway's plan to free the inhabitants of Unimatrix Zero comes to fruition, but at a cost. This episode splits its focus between the main plot and Seven's love life, which feels like it shouldn't work… but it kind of does for me. Jeri Ryan's just that good.
November 11, 2025 at 1:28 AM
VOY S6E26, “Unimatrix Zero, Part I”: Seven learns of a secret subset of Borg who go to a shared dreamland when they regenerate. I always find it somewhat annoying when Seven is shown to be special and unique among Borg, which happens a lot. Now it turns out she's literally one in a million? Hm.
November 11, 2025 at 12:17 AM
VOY S6E25, “The Haunting of Deck Twelve”: Neelix tells the Borg children a spooky tale of an alien life form that once took over the ship. Except it's not actually a particularly spooky tale at all, honestly – it's the kind of thing that happens once a month on Starfleet vessels. Kind of a let down.
November 10, 2025 at 5:21 PM
VOY S6E22, “Muse”:
Sing, goddess, the wrath of B'Elanna Torres,
Wrecked on the shore of a distant planet
Far from the great ship Voyager
Sing of Kelis the Poet, discoverer of B'Elanna,
And his quest to write a play to change the world
Sing of the Prime Directive,
Totally ignored in this episode…
November 10, 2025 at 1:39 AM
VOY S6E24, “Life Line”: The Doctor travels back to the Alpha Quadrant to treat his dying creator. I actually really like the Doctor, and by this point in the series I don't think he is much of a jerk, but the episode treats him as if he's as big a problem as Zimmerman when he just plain isn't.
November 10, 2025 at 12:29 AM
VOY S6E21, “Live Fast and Prosper”: A trio of con artists are going around impersonating the Voyager crew. Let's stop to appreciate a truly great episode title, with a delightful premise to match. The whole thing is fun, but the most fun part is the Tuvok impersonator getting way too into the role.
November 9, 2025 at 11:07 PM
VOY S6E23, “Fury”: Kes is back – and she's PISSED. I love that this is one of very few Voyager episodes that assumes you've watched from the beginning. I don't love that Kes's fury doesn't really make much sense, though. It feels like they had the story idea before thinking about the motivation.
