The followup to my earlier San Destino novella, Pillion for a Police Officer, is out now. A Wolf of His Own follows Jason, a rookie cop, and Roman, a wolf-shifter barman, and their journey to love, fulfillment and community leadership. There's a little bit of spice for this who like that sort of thing, a little bit of social justice, that's mainly for me, and appearences from characters in the first book.

Some of my readers may remember that last year I did a 31 for 31 horror films in October, you can read about that here. Well I've done it again! This year I was a took slightly better notes, and I used Letterboxd to give the films ratings: Carrie (1976) - very fun, I've seen it before which I forgot, 5 stars.

I'll start by saying I'm a bit late with this post. I went to Hobart for the Romance Writers of Australia Writer Wonderland conference, on 22-24 August. I've had an increased workload at my day job in the last few weeks, which has meant I've been doing more hours than usual, and in turn that I was a bit more tired even before I got to the conference than I might have been otherwise.

My new book, A Wolf of His Own, is now available for pre-order! I mentioned in my last post that I've been working on a sequel to my San Destino story, Pillion for a Police Officer. I can now announce that my new story, A Wolf of His Own, is set for release 15 November 2025. Set in the same magical town of San Destino, California, this story follows Jason Bell, a rookie cop trying to find his place, and Roman Eldritch, a bartender and wolf-shifter who has been rebelling against his heritage.

It has been a little while since I posted last. It's winter here in Melbourne, and while it's not cold enough for snow or anything, it's still cold enough for me to want to stay inside with a knee blanket. I had a small launch celebration with some friends for the release of Carter and Carter Detective Agency. We did a murder mystery game that I bought from an Etsy store.

You heard it here first: I've written another branching narrative, in the style of Choose Your Own Adventure novels, and this time it's a mystery! Louise and Megan Carter own and operate the Carter & Carter Detective Agency. They're also sisters. Most of the time they work on affairs and insurance claims, but this story follows the sisters as they try to find missing person Penny Bean.

Last October, you will remember that my novella, Pillion for a Police Officer, was released as part of the antholoy, Winds of Change. It feels like it's been a while since I checked in with this blog (though it was only a bit over a month ago). In the last few years I've been doing NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month) in April. NaPoWriMo, led by Maureen Thorson, is inspired by NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) which traditionally happens in November, and the idea is to write a new poem every day in April.

I'm excited to tell you all that I'll be attending Clunes Booktown this weekend. Clunes Booktown started in 2007, and currently offers 100 books stalls as well as author talks and other various other entertainment. I'll be setting up on Fraser Street, near the corner of Templeton Street to sell my wares--to be clear, I'm only selling books, with or without my signature on them, as per the buyer's request.

Well, really I'm calling any readers who might like to come to Geelong to meet a bunch of lovely authors (including me) at the Barwon Heads Indie Book Fair. It's happening on 12 January (that's next Sunday) from 9:00am - 1:00pm at the Barwon Heads Community Hall. The event is an opportunity to meet indie authors and support them by purchasing their books.

I've seen a meme a few times in the last couple of days that says something like: 'I don't want a new year, I'd like a gently used year. Perhaps 2015?' It does feel like everything has gone to shit lately, the US looks about ready to fall over, and here in Australia it's not much better. There is a theory that every generation thinks it's the worst and it's all gone to hell but I strongly feel we're going backwards and losing some of the ground we'd gained.

So as has been my style for the last couple of years, my last blog post for the year is a revision of my goals from the last twelve months. In my post in January I had this list of goals for 2024. Friends! Readers! I'm so pleased to tell you all that I have successfully finished the first draft of my branching narrative/choose your own adventure style detective novel: Carter and Carter Detective Agency. I have also successfully achieved the goal I set for myself for NaNoWriMo this year: 30,000 words. Awkwardly, I finished the first draft on 28 November, and therefore had to start a whole new project for the last two days, but I pulled out one of the story ideas from the notes section in my phone and put down a couple of thousand words.
