The invasives European-catfish & carp thrive in PT reservoirs. Under the #LIFEPREDATOR project, our Operative Team removed about 400kg & 200kg of catfish and carp from a Natural Park, in 2 days, using gillnets mesh>90mm), with nearly 0 bycatches. @lifeprogramme.bsky.social @marescience.bsky.social

Wonderful (and worrying) paper by @fishinvasionslab.bsky.social on the diet of invasive Wels catfish, Silurus glanis.
Notably, one in four catfish had consumed European eel, arguably contributing to recent worsening of its already poor status (see below)

This sunday, I was invited to a freshwater fish gastronomic festival in #Golegã! The winner was a Cataplana of catfish and crayfish (both invasives). This dish is done in a unique pot, closed and slow cooked typical from Portugal! #LIFEPREDATOR @marescience.bsky.social @cienciasulisboa.bsky.social
