Mesmerizing Featurette Examines Cinematography in 'Train Dreams'
Mesmerizing Featurette Examines Cinematography in 'Train Dreams'
🎥 "A lot of locations required having a small camera so we could fit anywhere. Easy to move around and follow whatever's happening." One of the best films of 2025 is now out in theaters around the world. Netflix has debuted the film Train Dreams, directed by Clint Bentley - it's in theaters now and will be streaming on Netflix later this month. Train Dreams premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to exceptional reviews (here's mine). The stunningly beautiful story is a moving portrait of Robert Grainier, a logger and railroad worker who leads a life of unexpected depth and beauty in the rapidly-changing America of the early 20th Century. It follows him throughout a great deal of his life, through trials and tribulations, as he watches the world change right before his eyes. Featuring a score by Bryce Dessner. Train Dreams stars Joel Edgerton as Robert, with Felicity Jones, Nathaniel Arcand, Clifton Collins Jr., John Diehl, Paul Schneider, with Kerry Condon and William H. Macy. This featurette focuses on the very talented cinematographer Adolpho Veloso who collaborated closely with Bentley crafting this, discussing their ideas & techniques to shoot this. He deserves plenty of nominations - it's a seriously magnificent film. // Continue Reading ›

Exploring Wild West History - 'High Horse: The Black Cowboy' Trailer
"If there were no Black cowboys, then America would not exist." "To reclaim what was stolen from us, we have to tell everyone!" Hear, hear! NBC's Peacock has revealed an official trailer for a fascinating new documentary series titled High Horse: The Black Cowboy, produced and developed by Jordan Peele's Monkeypaw Productions. This seems like something Peele has been trying to get made ever since he gave us Nope in 2022, which is also somewhat connected via the old history of Black horse trainers. In this 3-part pop series, Black cowboys' rich heritage comes alive through their enduring connection to the American West, revealing many remarkable stories of resilience, tradition, & their lasting impact on ranching culture. "A history that has largely been untold." Jordan Peele also adds: "I'm grateful to Monkeypaw for amplifying the powerful voices and long-standing culture of Black Cowboys and Cowgirls through High Horse... Their history is inseparable from the story of our country — and this project aims to honor and celebrate their lasting legacy." Well this looks great! Keep an eye out for it - available to watch on Peacock later this month. // Continue Reading ›

Vietnam War Doc 'The Stringer: The Man Who Took The Photo' Trailer
"It matters who pressed the shutter." Netflix has debuted an official trailer for an acclaimed documentary film titled The Stringer: The Man Who Took The Photo, which first premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The film is a fascinating deep-dive investigation in who exactly deserves the credit for taking a famous photo during the Vietnam War. The photo in question is the iconic "The Terror of War" shot with a screaming young girl published by the NY Times in 1972. A former Saigon photo editor reveals a secret he's been plagued with for ~52 years – setting off a gripping two-year investigation into the truth behind one of the Vietnam War’s most iconic photos. Acclaimed conflict photographer Gary Knight and a small team of journalists embark upon a relentless search to locate and seek justice for a man known only as "the stringer" - a local Vietnamese photographer named Nguyen Thanh Nghe. This doc is a look into his story, the rest of his life, and how the photo was attributed to another photographer in the first place. Nguyen Thanh Nghe was also in attendance at the Sundance premiere, where he stated: "I took the photo." // Continue Reading ›

Teaser Trailer for Pixar's 'Toy Story 5' Sequel - New Tech vs Old Toys
Teaser Trailer for Pixar's 'Toy Story 5' Sequel - New Tech vs Old Toys
"Hi there, I'm Lilypad! Let's play!" Disney & Pixar have unveiled the first look teaser for the Pixar sequel titled Toy Story 5, arriving in theaters for Summer 2026 - a full 31 years after the original Toy Story in 1995. After three other sequels to the original over many years, this time the toys are finally going to deal with the elephant in the room – technology. 😱 Buzz, Woody, Jessie are challenged after being introduced to what kids are obsessed with today: electronics. Essentially in the form of a gaming tablet. The big bid villain is a high-tech frog-shaped smart tablet named Lilypad voiced by Greta Lee. For those of you that don't have kids, yep these things are real. Conan O'Brien will also be a part of the voice cast as toilet training tech toy, Smarty Pants. All the regulars are back: Tom Hanks returns as ever loyal cowboy Woody, Tim Allen is back as Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack saddles up again as Jessie. And interestingly, Andrew Stanton is directing - he has made plenty of Pixar movies before, but this is his first Toy Story movie for the animation studio. From Toy Story 4 (in 2019), Tony Hale is also back as Forky, and it looks like Bonnie is still taking care of all the toys. An amusing first look intro while we wait for this next year. Say hi to Lilypad. // Continue Reading ›

Official Trailer for Thriller Sequel 'Influencers' Feat. Cassandra Naud
"I have this whole plan – she thinks I'm falling for, but I'm going to catch her red-handed!" Everyone hates influencers! Right? Right...?! Shudder has revealed an official trailer for a sneaky, freaky thriller film titled Influencers, made by filmmaker Kurtis David Harder returning again. This is actually a sequel to the 2022 indie horror film titled Influencer, starring the same actress Cassandra Naud as CW and from the same director. She returns to reprise her role in this next one – with some sneaky plans. In Southern France, a young woman's chilling fascination with murder and identity theft sends her life into a whirlwind of chaos. This thrilling sequel Influencers will debut streaming on Shudder directly starting in December. Canadian actress Cassandra Naud is back starring again as CW, joined in this sequel by Georgina Campbell, Lisa Delamar, Jonathan Whitesell, Veronica Long, and Dylan Playfair. "I always cast eyes. Because 50% of the movie is being looked at, 50% is looking at something. If you have faces, you have a movie." Guillermo! I could listen to him talk for hours and hours and never get bored. It's not just the stories he tells, it's the way he tells them and it's his passion for cinema. He's such a geek! And it's the best! In promotion for his new Frankenstein movie, Konbini in Paris got director Guillermo del Toro to visit their favorite video store in Paris to chat about cinema. The latest in their "Video Club" series featuring directors coming to this old video store and perusing the shelves, saying whatever comes to mind. This video is a full 30 minutes! And it's still not long enough! Guillermo talks about his love for Mad Max 2, Taxi Driver, Planet of the Apes (he really geeks out about watching this as a kid), The Devils, and many other films. Along with filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, James Cameron (whom he has been friends with for decades), William Friedkin, Hitchcock, Charlie Chaplin, Luis Bunuel, and others. This is one of my favorite of the Konbini Video Club videos - so fascinating listening to him tell all these stories. Watch below. // Continue Reading ›

Dog in the Middle of a Break-Up Comedy 'Merv' Trailer with Deschanel
"Maybe Merv could stay in my room tonight?" "Ohh, no, sadly he's just fallen asleep." 🐶 Prime Video has revealed the first official trailer for a fun romantic comedy movie called Merv, arriving to watch streaming in December. This is skipping theaters entirely and will be on Prime Video starting on December 10th - one month from now. Though it looks cute enough to get people to theaters! "There's nothing more complicated than a breakup. Except when you're sharing a dog." A recently separated couple take their shared dog on a holiday trip to cheer him up, but end up reconnecting romantically. The dog's name is Merv, hence the name of the film being Merv. This almost seems like a spiritual sequel to 500 Days of Summer, also borrowing the Forgetting Sarah Marshall concept of running into each other, but with a super adorable dog being at the center of it all. Starring Zooey Deschanel as Anna and Charlie Cox as Russ, with Chris Redd, Patricia Heaton, & Ellyn Jameson. This looks fun enough for a nice holiday watch under a warm blanket. Enjoy. // Continue Reading ›

Grief Drama 'The Thing With Feathers' Trailer #2 with Cumberbatch
"Ahhh there he is... Sad Dad." Briarcliff Entertainment has debuted their second trailer for the film titled The Thing With Feathers, a dark grief drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch as a widow dad dealing with his two young boys. This originally premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to mostly mixed to negative reviews, and opens in theaters at the end of November. "An emotional gut punch wrapped in a dark, fantastical nightmare" - The Thing With Feathers is adapted from the bestselling book written by Max Porter. Left to raise two young sons after the unexpected death of his wife, Dad's life begins to unravel. Grief is messy and chaotic enough as it is, but when it takes the form of an unhinged, unwanted house guest taunting him from the shadows, things start to spiral out of control... It's a powerful story about a grieving father struggling to raise his young sons who is helped by an imaginative creature called Crow. He's cool. The practical crow creature is designed by Conor O'Sullivan which they're still keeping hidden. The cast also includes Vinette Robinson, David Thewlis, & Eric Lampaert as Crow. I saw this aleady and it's just not good, it doesn't come together... But it's still a powerful look at how all-consuming grief is. // Continue Reading ›

First Trailer for 'The Wizard of the Kremlin' with Paul Dano & Jude Law
"What interests me is power." Gaumont in France has revealed their first trailer for the film The Wizarrd of the Kremlin, an English-language feature film from French director Olivier Assayas. This premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival a few months ago, and it also stopped by the Toronto, San Sebastian, Busan, and Zurich Film Festivals as well. A young Russian artist becomes an unlikely advisor to Vladimir Putin as he rises to power in post-Soviet Russia, navigating the new era's complexities and chaos. The film tells the story of Vadim Baranov, played with calm and cool by Paul Dano, a sharp young man who becomes the top propagandist and advisor to Vladimir Putin when he first takes power in Russia as President in 2000. It's a remarkable inside look at how power dynamics, corruption and manipulation work within the top echelons of Russia's government. Also starring Jude Law as Putin, Alicia Vikander as Ksenia, Jeffrey Wright, Tom Sturridge, Will Keen, and many others. I've seen this film and it's particularly fascinating, showing how everything really is about power and control and manipulation. This trailer captures the vibe of the film and Dano's story as it progresses through decades of time. But still no US release set yet! Take a look below. // Continue Reading ›

"You're in a different world when you're in tree world." 🎄🎄 Prime Video has revealed the amusing official trailer for The Merchants of Joy, a new documentary film made by filmmaker Celia Aniskovich. This is premiering soon at the 2025 DOC NYC Film Festival in the Big Apple and will also debut on Prime Video for streaming in December just after. It's that time of year again! Get your glamorous green holiday decoration before they sell out! The film follows five NYC families as they source, bargain and hustle to sell Christmas trees, blending street smarts and holiday spirit. Described as "a warm, grounded portrait of pride, grit, and the joy they bring — one tree, one customer, one season at a time." Anyone who has been in New York City around Christmastime has seen so many of these sellers out on street corners everywhere. I love the smell of pine trees and it's always so exciting to try and find the perfect one for your home. Must See Trailer for 'The Plague' with Everett Blunck & Joel Edgerton
"Why are you doing this to me?" Jump right in! Independent Film Company has revealed the first official trailer for The Plague, one of the most intriguing indie film discoveries of 2025. This first premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival to rave reviews from critics, calling out everything from the cinematography to the haunting score (heard in this trailer) to these performances from the kids. From writer / director Charlie Polinger – a socially awkward tween endures the ruthless hierarchy while at a water polo camp, his anxiety spiraling into psychological turmoil over the summer. This stars Joel Edgerton as their coach, Everett Blunck as Ben, Kayo Martin as Jake, and Kenny Rasmussen as Eli. The film is a clever, slick thriller about bullying and the way kids pick on other kids; it's not horror despite the title. I'm lucky to be quoted in this trailer from my Cannes review: "this is proper filmmaking firing on all cylinders." It's out in theaters at Christmas first, then expands to more theaters in early 2026. Keep an eye out for this film coming up soon. // Continue Reading ›

But it began as something else entirely: A piece of Dada street theater designed to shock people out of their everyday existence by creating a sense of awe & confusion. Those who started Santacon in the '90s are the same people who started Burning Man and who served as the real-life inspiration for Fight Club & Project Mayhem. Rowan Atkinson Gets into More Trouble in 'Man vs Baby' Series Trailer
"Whose baby is this?" Netflix has revealed a fun official trailer for Man vs Baby, the follow-up series to Rowan Atkinson's other comedy series Man vs Bee from 2022. Atkinson is best known as either Mr. Bean or Johnny English – after moving on from those characters he is now playing "Trevor Bingley". This holiday comedy looks quite funny. After a disastrous experience housesitting a high-tech mansion hampered by an inconvenient insect in Man vs Bee, Trevor now finds himself looking after a luxurious London penthouse, with another unlikely companion he didn't ask for... On the last day of term at his school job, when no one comes to collect the Baby Jesus from the school nativity, Trevor finds himself with another undersized and very unexpected companion. With a penthouse to protect & a baby to burp, will he be able to have the calm Christmas he hopes for, or will festivities descend into chaos? This stars Rowan Atkinson with Alanah Bloor and Joseph Balderrama. And one cute baby. Or maybe two cute babies?! Ha... This actually looks like a good time - better than most streaming Christmas comedies they're making these days. Have a laugh. // Continue Reading ›

Official Trailer for 'Mr Nobody Against Putin' Doc Film About a Teacher
"I am these kids' propagandist." Crazy! Madman Films in Australia has unveiled an official trailer for the acclaimed, award-winning doc film called Mr Nobody Against Putin, made by director David Borenstein as his latest feature. This documentary premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year where it won a Special Jury Prize. A brave and resilient primary school teacher secretly exposes Putin's aggressive militarisation of Russia's schools and their propaganda tactics in one of the great documentary sensations of the year. It has played at tons of other festivals including CPH:DOX, Docville, Zurich, DOC:NYC and others. Mr Nobody Against Putin was shot over a period of 2 years by Pavel "Pasha" Talankin, the videographer & events coordinator at Karabash Primary School #1. Talankin began seriously documenting his activities after the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, when the government began requiring schools to hold regular "patriotic displays" and use a state-written curriculum to justify the invasion to students. Talankin secretly fled Russia during the summer of 2024, aided by his producers and director David Borenstein who worked to get him asylum in Europe, following evidence of police surveillance at his home. "Do you not believe your own visions?" Magnolia Pictures has revealed the second trailer for the intriguing experimental film The Carpenter's Son, described as a dark, mysterious, horror spin on the story of Jesus (here's the first trailer). From the same director behind the films 12 O'Clock Boys and Harka. This new film is based on the apocryphal gospel, known as the Infancy Gospel of Thomas. A remote village in Roman-era Egypt explodes into spiritual warfare when a carpenter & his son Jesus are targeted by supernatural forces. A boy, known only as "The Boy", is driven to doubt by another mysterious child (clearly it's Satan in human form) and rebels against his guardian, revealing inherent powers and a fate beyond his comprehension. As he exercises his own power, the Boy and his family become the target of horrors, natural & divine. The film stars Nicolas Cage as The Carpenter, FKA Twigs as The Mother, Noah Jupe as The Boy, with Souheila Yacoub and Isla Johnston. Ready for release in theaters this November if anyone is curious to watch it. Director Lotfy Nathan, inspired by his Coptic Christian background, delivers a meticulously crafted, genre-bending supernatural thriller packed with unshakeable images. It looks crazy! Review: 'Predator: Badlands' is a Bold Refresh of This Sci-Fi Franchise
Review: 'Predator: Badlands' is a Bold Refresh of This Sci-Fi Franchise
"I am prey to none!" The latest entry in the Predator science fiction franchise is hitting theaters – where it belongs – and is ready to rock audiences with something completely new and unexpected. And that's a good thing. Predator: Badlands is the third Predator film made by acclaimed filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg, who kicked off his exceptional sci-fi career with the sneaky sci-fi film 10 Cloverfield Lane in 2016. He made Prey back in 2022 which completely reinvigorated the Predator franchise. Earlier this year, Trachtenberg and co-director Joshua Wassung gave us the animated anthology Predator: Killer of Killers. Which makes Badlands officially the 9th movie in the Predator franchise (including the two Alien vs. Predator crossover movies in the early 00s) since it began in 1987 with the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic. This is exactly why it's refreshing, and honestly quite exciting, to see Trachtenberg try something completely new and take this series in a whole new direction. It's the first time we ever follow the Predator as the main character, telling the story from his POV instead of a human or something else. As much as it might be overused, sometimes "awesome" really is the right word to describe a very good movie - and this sci-fi action movie is awesome. // Continue Reading ›

Official Trailer for 'Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair' In Theaters Soon
"The 4th Film by Quentin Tarantino, as it was meant to be seen." ⚔️ Lionsgate has revealed the full official trailer for the theatrical release of the long-awaited combined epic Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair. This is the definitive, original version of the story that Quentin Tarantino envisioned over 20 years ago. As everyone knows, Tarantin's brutal revenge saga Kill Bill was released in two parts: Kill Bill: Volume 1 in 2003 and Kill Bill: Volume 2 in 2004. Uma Thurman stars as The Bride - an assassin left for dead who miraculously survives and goes on a rampaging revenge tour to get back at her old boss and all of his assassins. Both of them are some of my favorite movies ever made. Also starring Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah, Gordon Liu as Pai Mei, Michael Parks, and David Carradine as "Bill". Presented exactly as Tarantino intended, complete with a new, never-before-seen anime sequence, The Whole Blood Affair unites Vol. 1 & 2 into a single, unrated epic. The highly anticipated release marks one of the rare times that the entire epic has been presented as a single, combined film. Freaky Trailer #2 for 'Five Nights at Freddy's 2' Animatronic Horror Sequel
Freaky Trailer #2 for 'Five Nights at Freddy's 2' Animatronic Horror Sequel
"Half of this town will be dead by morning." Well that's ominous! Blumhouse and Universal have debuted a second official trailer for horror sequel Five Nights at Freddy's 2, continuing the animatronic terror of the Fazbears. Opening in theaters nationwide in December at the end of this year. Blumhouse's box-office horror phenomenon Five Nights at Freddy's, the highest-grossing horror movie of 2023, begins a blood-chilling new chapter of animatronic terror. Based on Scott Cawthon’s hit video game series, Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is directed again by filmmaker Emma Tammi. The next one seems to continue right where the last left off, with Josh Hutcherson looking for his missing sister. A year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. When Abby sneaks out to reconnect with her friends Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades. Also starring Matthew Lillard, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and all the mechanical monsters back again. This definitely looks like an even scarier, more intense improvement over the first film. Watch out for killer animatronic furries. // Continue Reading ›

Shogen Fights Back on a Desert Island in 'Lone Samurai' Action Trailer
Shogen Fights Back on a Desert Island in 'Lone Samurai' Action Trailer
"Nothing less than their heads!" Well Go USA has revealed an official trailer for an action thriller samurai movie called Lone Samurai, made by American filmmaker / producer Josh C. Waller. This just premiered at Beyond Fest 2025, where they explain in the intro: the film "reimagines the classic samurai epic through an intimate, hallucinatory lens. When a violent and reckless ronin is shipwrecked on a remote island, he's left with no outlet for his rage—only the ghosts of his past and the unforgiving landscape around him now. As isolation corrodes his mind, his search for peace turns into a brutal spiritual trial, one that blurs the line between reality and nightmare." The film stars Japanese actor Shogen (real name Shogen Itokazu) as Riku, along with Keigo Sunagawa, Yuma Sunagawa, Sumire Ashina, and badass Indonesian actor Yayan Ruhian you'll recognize from The Raid films. The fest adds: "With sparse dialogue, stark visuals & a surreal crescendo that fuses Cast Away's existential solitude with the feverish pulp of Temple of Doom, [the film] becomes a meditation on redemption, madness, and survival." This sounds and looks pretty cool! Click play. // Continue Reading ›
