A paper doesn’t have to be widely read/cited to matter.

If you wrote it with a trainee, at least you know that one person learned something.

On being quietly pleased with small academic wins.
On learning to say no.
On the psychic who told my mother that I’d be published.

It’s a reflection on writing, and on protecting your bandwidth.

When the diagnosis is unclear, structure is your ally.

This video walks through a practical, evidence-informed way to approach FUO, grounded in real consult experience.
New FCID teaching video - How to do an Infectious Diseases Consultation: Fever of Unknown Origin.

The consult that humbles everyone, eventually.

A structured approach to FUO...and when to stray off the path and “go for the money.”

Finally, someone’s given a name to the performative act of expounding wisdom just recently learned… VDRAK!

Now you can spot it when you see it, chuckle when it appears, and (hopefully) catch it in yourself before falling into the same trap.

We’ve all seen it: the colleague who drops a shiny new fact like it’s ancient wisdom.

"Febrile neutropenia is fun...until it isn't"

No 2 cases are the same, and a structured approach to your assessment and empiric therapy is key.

Here, we cover the basics of the ID consult for patients with chemo-induced FN. A classic "on-call emergency."

(ps. FN is never fun for the patient)

If you haven't checked out this gem (odds are, you haven't yet), take a listen!

The art of "the Mulligan"...it feels great when you apply it, and it's fun to explain to trainees.

Also, it may be the best option for your patient (when used wisely).
⛳️ THR Episode 11 – The Mulligan

In golf, a mulligan is a do-over.

In ID, sometimes the best move is the same: stop, reset, and start fresh.

We discuss the value of this strategy and when use it (or shelve it).

Gram-neg bacteremia is common, important, and often the reason ID is called.

It's not just about picking an antibiotic, but also asking why it happened, and what else to do?

This FCID session reviews an approach to the patient with GNB bacteremia.

When trainee & attending aren’t in sync, it can feel awkward...like stepping out of an elevator that’s just shy of level.

In this THR, we explore how to spot the gap, and hopefully start closing it.
🎙️The Host Response: Out of Step

When your plan is careful, evidence-based… and your attending still says “No, do the opposite”?

This episode is about those moments of mismatch between trainee & attending, and how to find your footing when you feel out of sync.
