Marking the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII, I wanted to write about the writers and directors who were working during the war and the incredible films they managed to produce - with particular focus on John Ford, William Wyler and Alfred Hitchcock.
MJ's @fionaunderhill.bsky.social says, "Modern day Hollywood can certainly learn a thing or two from the filmmakers who worked during World War II, they didn’t shy away from confronting uncomfortable truths..."

Today's double bill has restored my faith in movies somewhat after what has mostly been a boring, lacklustre year so far (for me, at least).

Dash & Lily ✅

In a rare burst of productivity (let’s not get caught up in the details), I binged Dash & Lily overnight. Definitely not my usual cup of tea, but once it found its stride, I really cared for these cuties. Cheesy as hell, but it’s Christmas, so let’s rock 🎄📕 🥰
I recently rewatched DASH & LILY - an absolutely delightful Christmas rom com mini-series on Netflix

Austin Abrams is so so good in this and I hope after Weapons this year, he blows up a bit more because he deserves!

I wrote about my Noir Queen Audrey Totter and how much I love her in Lady in the Lake (yes really) as well as The Set-Up - two completely different performances which truly demonstrate her range.

Happy birthday to J. G. Ballard, a writer whose fiction could inspire great and equally quintessential films by both Stephen Spielberg and David Cronenberg, and the man behind some of the uniquely unsettling reading experiences I've ever had.
