The Irish/Gaeilge word for 'solstice' is 'grianstad' which can be translated literally as 'sun stop'.

Which is very nice.

Directly reflecting the Latin 'Solstitium' - 'sun stopped'.

Post mortem later but what this team have done to promote women’s sports is exceptional. The fact we have two sporting icons called Katie who have pushed the boundaries. It was not to be tonight and there will be massive regrets naturally. Kudos to Wales, just more clinical on the night

DEIS SCHOOL SNAPSHOT An April 2024 snapshot survey of 17 DEIS Band 1 schools in the most disadvantaged areas of Dublin shows need for additional Department of Education support. Additional Needs 54% Principals believe 54% of children in their schools need SET support* vs. 14% SEN (non-DEIS schools) ** Trauma 48% 48% of children have experienced trauma* 7 Principals call on Department of Education to implement a DEIS+ classification which includes; → Multi disciplinary teams with counsellors, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists to work on the ground in schools with children that have additional needs. Teaching posts, funding and classroom space dedicated to implementing trauma informed practices and interventions. These supports will begin to allow schools to address the childhood poverty and intergenerational trauma and the effects it has on children's education. *Information based on data from survey of 17 DEIS Band 1 schools in Ballymun, Darndale and West Tallaght (2024). **Beyond Achievement: Home, school and wellbeing findings from PISA 2018 for students in DEIS and non-DEIS schools* (ERC, 2021).

Primary DEIS+ Our schools in generationally disadvantaged areas have a disproportionate number of children who have additional needs or have experienced trauma. x4 times the number of children with Special Educational Needs 48% of children have experienced a direct trauma* Based on Spring 2024 Survey of 17 schools in West Tallaght, Ballymun, Darndale We need; • A Primary DEIS+ Category • Multidisciplinary teams (OT, SLT, Counsellor, Psychologist) • Teacher allocation, funding and room space for trauma informed practice A committment to creating a DEIS+ needs to be included in all political party manifestos and then in any Programme for Government Create a Primary DEIS+ Band Primary DEIS+ The greatest level of need should get the greatest level of support The OECD Review of Resourcing Schools to Address Educational Disadvantage in Ireland released in July 2024 supports this proposal. It makes recommendations such as: • Strengthen the coordination and integration of services across departments to better support students at risk of educational disadvantage • Continue refining and validating the indicators) of social disadvantage underpinning the targeting of DEIS resources • Focus capacity-building efforts on priority areas both in and around DEIS schools • Strengthen the coordination of educational services with the health and therapeutic service provision to increase support for schools and families in meeting students' needs Create a Primary DEIS+ Band
