Of all the data tools I've built over the years, I think the best is the sketchy personal financial planner I built in Google Sheets.

It's saved us a lot of trouble multiple times now (have used it a lot this year!)

Wondering whether to tidy it up and make it available to download somewhere?

3 years ago, I analysed over 150,000 Twitter profiles to look at the use of pronouns, LGBTQ+ and neurodiversity terms in profiles.

I'm thinking about gathering a comparable sample from Bluesky, and re-running the same analysis.

Simulating and visualising evolution with #rstats

The model creates a population in the centre of 3 locations, each optimal for the survival rate of one mutation, so we see completely random movement become a migration to home.

Dug up another abandoned project: simulating and visualising evolution in #rstats.

I'm having a lovely time revisiting some old Github projects. A few years ago I tried to make a #rstats console-based notetaking package.

It was not well designed, but honestly it's still a thing I would use, so I've given it a little update: v0.2.0 🥳

Decided to dig up an old R project looking at the effect of spending with local businesses on the local economy to work on in D3 - it's a mess right now but I'm just happy I've (roughly, kinda) got the logic and some animation working!

Hello, I'm Dan 👋

I used to be pretty active in #rstats #tidytuesday community years ago when I was new to ggplot2. Since then I've done most of my learning at work, but I'm back because I want to learn #d3js!

Any suggestions for people to follow to help me get started?

How does one go about getting a part-time data job on the side of doing a full-time data job? Times are roooough.

Going through like 20 work items on our Devops board where someone has clearly fed a transcript from a Teams call into ChatGPT and it suuucks so bad.

Something about ChatGPT's outputs just numbs my brain to the point where I can't read them properly.

How do we all just carry on doing our silly little jobs right now?

There's a story like Hind Rajab's for every single one of the 12,000+ children killed in Palestine and I don't know how much longer I can spend 8 hours a day pretending to care about anything else 🇵🇸

I'm helping my partner redesign her website at the moment and I'm really enjoying working with Shopify's liquid code!

Managed to add an Instagram story-style navigation to the home page, and these nifty sustainability highlights to each product dynamically.

Am I a front-end developer now? 😂

I truly believe that video of the guy singing Livin On A Prayer on a bench where the whole park joins in for the chorus should go down as one of humanity's greatest achievements

So I downloaded GameMaker Studio 2 and managed to get some basic functionality down. It's very tricky! Wrote like 20 lines of code in 4 hours 😅
Guys I've had like 5 straight days off work and I'm on the verge of diving into making a mobile game.

What even is relaxing?

I joined the Vesuvius Challenge discord a few weeks ago to keep up with progress, and I'm really enjoying the updates.

Are there any other open discord groups where a bunch of people are working on big scientific problems together? Hoping to replace doomscrolling with nerdscrolling in 2024 😂

Months ago, I spent hours fixated on making this Obsidian vault, recording everything you may need to know working in data science.

Every dot is a note filled with a quick ChatGPT summary of what the thing is, coloured by a proficiency tag.

It makes it so much easier to dive back into learning.
