On this day in 1967, Mel Brooks' The Producers debuted in Pittsburgh, failed tremendously, and was almost shelved by the studio. Thankfully, history has been kind to Brooks' tale of a two-bit shyster and the accountant who helps him mount the worst show in Broadway history: Springtime for Hitler.
