Doug Ford says he treats First Nations "like gold"... if by that he means, like a commodity, I guess he's not wrong.

Baffling to him that they keep insisting they're people.

Rainy day so FINALLY folding laundry. It's like archaeology by now. Note the thick layer of sheets, indicating a period of visitors, interspersed with fossilized undies. Hard set wrinkles throughout indicate an inability to remove from the dryer in a timely manner. Well gotta amuse myself somehow.

The folks that rise to the top of society and control it consider themselves the cream.

The rest of us look at them and see scum, nothing but scum.

The Bees in Winter

The hive hums and the bees
shiver their wings and swarm;
a molten mass won't freeze
as it swirls from cold to warm
and from warm again to cold,
in a world of honey and wax
in a house of shadowed gold,
the dust of winter on their backs.

Friends are not fucking commodities, that is all.

As somebody once said something like, you go to revolution with the comrades you have and not the comrades you wish you had.

And that's okay.

My egg farmer now has goose eggs. I figured she'd be asking a dollar each, and she is. But one egg is the size of 3 chicken eggs! So really, a bargain. Got 5, will check them out.

Been looking at all the Conservative signs popping up in my 'hood. Gotta think people who still vote Con can't recognize, process, or integrate new information.

Still voting for their team, not seeing their sport has gone from playing hockey to lobbing grenades into the stands.

So it's starting to look to me like the Canadians and Europeans being seized and/or hassled by ICE/customs in the USA are getting it on either ideological grounds or for being attractive young white women (bonus points if suspected of both)?

Could be bias in reporting, of course.

Planted cauliflower seeds last week. (Feb 28th). First ones were up in three days, they were crossed seeds we saved (Pusa Meghna x ?). The rest (purchased) are not up yet which I suspect is because they got put in a cooler spot. Still, off to an exciting start!

I met a traveller from a private golf club
Who said: “Two vast and slabby legs of flab
Stand in the fairway. Fuck them, what a schlub,
Half-wit, a narcissist, whose wig,
And tiny hands, and mouth like squirming grub,
Tell that Americans are wholely screwed.

We decided to get take-out sushi for Valentine's day. Mr Ferdzy wanted to order early as it would be so busy. I scoffed. Who the heck gets take-out sushi for Valentine's day besides us?

Everyone, apparently. Could not get through on the phone so went in in person. T'was a mob scene.

Fan tho I am of libraries I haven't been to my local one much as I mostly read on-line. I'm going to change that.
A shadow war on libraries
Some Canadian politicians and influencers, inspired by an American-born movement, are trying to roll back 2SLGBTQ+ rights in Canada — one book at a time.

A cottager and his wife had a Hen that laid a golden egg every day. They supposed that the Hen must contain a great lump of gold in its inside, and in order to get the gold they killed her.

Review of Breeding Projects in 2024
Well so much for my plan to post regularly about our breeding projects here. However, while I still have some memory of the last season, I...

Haven't attempted to write a poem in years; decades, really. Don't know what brought this on. Rum-soaked fruitcake, maybe.

Love is not found in nature, just like cake,
It's made of things that you must bake;
A cup of like, a pinch of lust,
A little bickering for crust.

I used to volunteer in jail, and something somebody said to me once has been in my thoughts lately:

"I'm not the biggest, I'm not the strongest, I'm not the fastest. So when push comes to shove, I have to be the craziest."

'Tis the season! For colds and flu, that is. Get your necessary vaccinations and

"Wash, wash, wash your hands,
Scrub them well with soap -
Thoroughly, thoroughly, thoroughly, thoroughly;
Don't be a fucking dope. "

Twice through while following directions; you know the tune. Stay well, everyone!

A quote from Bernt Engelmann's "In Hitler's Germany: Everyday Life in the Third Reich" that has stayed with me in the years since I first read, and which is more apt than ever:

Mature fruit, f3 of a cucurbita pepo x cucurbita argyrosperma cross (Lebanese White Bush x Tennessee Sweet Potato). I hope that the argyrosperma will bring heat/drought tolerance and insect/disease resistance to pepo-style summer squash, and that mature fruits will have tasty and tender seeds.

My first social media account! Have not joined others for... reasons. In spite of intense interest in politics domestic and foreign, expect most of my posts to do with vegetables.
