24 years after 9/11—when NATO invoked Article 5 for the first and only time—Russian drones in Polish airspace saw Warsaw call for Article 4. NATO’s defence commitments remain highly relevant.

Federica Fazio has a dissenting take on The Hague Summit: the real winner is NATO, not Trump. In this blog, she analyses its outcomes through three lenses: a stronger, fairer, and more lethal NATO. Read it here: www.dcu.ie/blog/2151/di... @dublincityuni.bsky.social @fedefaziof.bsky.social

While I'm glad the NATO Summit was a success, using it as a platform for brushing aside the prohibition to use force – a core norm of international law – is problematic, as I stress in this brief interview. NATO's Article V is important for our security, but so is Article 2(4) of the UN Charter.

An honor and a pleasure to be moderated by my former supervisor @danielfiott.bsky.social.
Daniel, thank you so much for your insightful comments and feedback, and for your excellent moderation. And a big thank you also to the audience for their great questions!
Great being at #EUIA25 today to serve as chair/discussant for a set of excellent papers by Federica Fazio, Ricardo Pereira and Davide Genini from Dublin City University! The papers focused on Article 42.7 TEU, the EDTIB and gaming to radicalise. Great work!

Been making this point too to academic colleagues traveling to the US - if you are anxious fly via Dublin or Shannon both with US immigration preclearance. Your US fight then lands as domestic.
Serious point I'd make to European citizens/residents who are considering visiting the US: fly on Aer Lingus via Dublin and your US immigration takes place in Dublin Airport, so if the Yanks turn you away then you'll still have the right to stay in Ireland (1/2)

The total cut off of deliveries to Ukraine is shockingly punitive. This is money already spent, equipment already built by industry for Ukraine, much of it has little utility to the US military. And it is just going to be sitting there in warehouses idle, as Ukrainian forces fight on.

Excellent breakdown of the reality behind the ReArm EU initiative announced today, it's a step in the right direction but a small step
About that €800bn EU defence fund just announced

€650bn of that - over 80% - is assuming Member States spend 1.5% of GDP more on defence over the next 4 years.*

This is based on the (already announced) relaxation of the EU rules on budget deficits.

But were fiscal rules ever the problem? (1/🧵)
