By day I am a principal software engineer at Microsoft working on C/C++ dev tools, and other open source things.

By night, I'm a maker, a father, a husband and a Seattle Kraken fan.
This is bad UI

In the Sound settings in Windows 11 - you can disable a sound device that you don't want apps to be able to use

However, when you open the UI to do that you are faces with a button that says "Don't Allow" or "Allow" - Which really doesn't tell you what the current state is

I'm working remotely in a hotel room, and I just had to break down and get a couple of those cheap portable external monitors.

However, I feel like @bitcrazed.bsky.social is judging me.

I think one my absolute favorite things about the JavaScript ecosystem, that nobody ever talks about, is support for source maps, and just how complex and innovative that is.

Wow. Is docker desktop ever bad at what happens when disk space hits zero.
August 13, 2025 at 4:06 PM
Meh, what can go wrong?

Seriously tho' ... I discovered an actual viable reason to check the second box

Docker desktop is A BIT DISK INTENSIVE ... so I moved the vhdx files for that to an otherwise unused drive

It's for test/dev work only, so I don't care about the contents

About a year ago, I started my weight loss journey.

I've lost 100 lbs so far. I feel better, look better and I'm still going.

What a difference a year can make.

I was somehow convinced to cater a wedding reception, based on my ability to BBQ for 125 people

Today is that day.

Prime rib supper for 100 people.

I'm a bit surprised I agreed to this.

I'm a bbq'er not a caterer.

Let's hope I don't mess this up...

A buddy of mine sent me this picture.

My response:

IS THAT AN ACTUAL NEWSPAPER?!??

My daughter Téa has been self-learning animation, music, etc and ... here is her first full length music video.

She did this entirely herself from scratch.

Please, if you can, watch this and give her some encouragement and feedback, it'd be worth a lot to her.

About to record a video - I go looking for my DSLR camera and ... I can't find it. I was pretty sure that it's in a box in my garage. I went and looked and didn't find it

Do I just run down to a pawn shop & see if I can find a cheap DSLR that will do, or spend hours trying to dig thru the garage?

LOLWUT?

I really dislike that when you ask an AI to do something, and if they mess it up of get it wrong and you correct them, they'll always apologize or say stuff like "You're absolutely right -- ..."

It really comes off as a bit irritating - but I really don't know what I want it to say.

If they want Canada to become part of the US, I have a list of non-negotiable conditions.

If the US can agree to 100% of these conditions, I'm on board.

I've never met Fabrice Bellard personally, but the impact that this one man has had on computing technology can not be overstated.

Software you use absolutely has some of his code it.
