The math department is also excellent, and many Chinese professors are affiliated with the Yau Center.

Beijing is a huge city, and Peking University, Tsinghua, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Kavli Institute are the best places for hep-th in China. Hope you have a great time here, and by the way, I highly recommend the food at Jinghualou(京华楼).

Thanks so much, bro. It’s my first time dealing with a situation that might require surgery, and the whole experience feels strangely new. Hawking and Polchinski have always been my spiritual anchors — their final papers happen to overlap in a beautiful way with my own research path.

I injured my wrist and I’m seeing an orthopedist in Beijing. I didn’t expect you to come to China — will you be giving a talk here?

Today is my birthday. I don’t have any peers around to talk with, and I feel quite lonely. I’m reading the original edition of a book my professor gave me, with a kind of quiet reverence. I really like the old Beijing “qǐzi mó” 起子馍— it seems to be the local version of a scone.

I’ve lived in this noisy, miserable apartment for years. I never planted anything in the old flower pot left by a former tenant — yet after a month of rain, it bloomed on its own.
I hope my research can blossom like that wildflower.

My collaborating professor is Hai Lin, one of the authors of the LLM solution. I read Vishnu Jejjala's paper at the beginning of our collaboration, but I hadn't fully studied supersymmetry and string theory yet, so I didn't get much out of it.
