A few days before the #ASP24 starts in The Hague, I am thrilled to share my book analysing *how* the Assembly governs the International Criminal Court will be published by @degruyterbrill.bsky.social on December 18th.

I’ll be around at the ASP, say hello 👋🏻

Undoubtedly the political situation in Venezuela must be different. But an illegal foreign armed military intervention - one with plenty of history - will not deliver the desired political outcome and sets a dangerous (once again) precedent a peaceful region in the world.

1/8 - Article 97 of the UN Charter sets out the appointment of the Secretary-General, but Articles 1 and 2 define the substance of the role: promotion of human rights, respect for international law, and good-faith cooperation. Procedure cannot be divorced from purpose.

Ucrania y Gaza sufrieron violaciones escandalosas.

When the Assembly met in The Hague at the beginning of Dec, they knew more US sanctions were coming. Lots of States Parties proposed tangible actions. Now it’s the time to implement them.

ICC strongly rejects new U.S. sanctions designations against two ICC Judges
The International Criminal Court deplores the announcement of new designations for sanctions by the US administration against Judge Gocha Lordkipanidze (Georgia) and Judge Erdenebalsuren Damdin (Mongolia). These additional designations follow the earlier designation of nine elected officials of the Judiciary and the Office of the Prosecutor, drawn from all regional groups. These sanctions are a flagrant attack against the independence of an impartial judicial institution which operates pursuant to the mandate conferred by its States Parties from across regions. Such measures targeting judges and prosecutors who were elected by the States Parties undermine the rule of law. When judicial actors are threatened for applying the law, it is the international legal order itself that is placed at risk.As previously stated, the Court stands firmly behind its personnel and behind victims of unimaginable atrocities. It will continue to carry out its mandate with independence and impartiality, in full accordance with the Rome Statute and in the interest of victims of international crimes. The ICC values the consistent demonstrations of solidarity of States Parties, civil society and all those who support the rule of law and justice for the victims of international crimes. The Court will continue its work, with all partners, to ensure the effective and independent implementation of its mandate. For more information, please contact the ICC Public Affairs Unit: PublicAffairs.Unit@icc-cpi.int. You can also follow the Court’s activities on Twitter/X, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Flickr

1/3 ‼️The OIOS has delivered its report into alleged misconduct by the Prosecutor. Took 1 year to get here.

There is no public press release in the ASP or ICC website nor any comms by the President to date.

The process forward continues to be troublesome for 2 reasons

Important to cover this critical matter as the Assembly of States Parties begins their 24th session next Monday.

The ongoing situation must culminate with due process and explanations by the Bureau.

Good to see and share a similar analysis with @sevslv.bsky.social

Milei’s gov preparing to host Netanyahu. The Bureau of the Assembly of States Parties must now trigger their cooperation procedures to remind Argentina of its Rome Statute obligation to arrest any fugitive wanted by the Court.

Argentina would join Hungary’s failure to cooperate.
