i like video games and programming
super mario 64 having invisible walls everywhere sounds like something your friend in middle school would make up as a lie to cover for his bad platforming. but no. that’s actually how the game works

the bell beast’s sound design is top notch. the purring, the growls, the stomping, the exhales. i love them so much

peak gaming is when a game that doesn’t need all the buttons on the controller maps an extraneous button to some random action. never tutorialized; it’s not needed or useful at any point, just an extra thing you can make the character do. for funsies

the pikmin have a ton of personality in the first game. they sit on ledges or lie down when bored, get distracted, hang their head when sad. honestly i like that they trip so often, reminds you that these are individuals you’re commanding.

just wish they could follow olimar up the most basic ramp

Wow, I’m in 6th place globally on the Poinpy leaderboards! (for four orb average, my best category.)

I love this game so much. Ojiro Fumoto is an awesome game designer.

More people should play it; there’s no way I’m actually skilled enough to deserve 6th. Come knock me off the board!

pro tears of the kingdom kinesthetic immersion tip: let go of the controller with your left hand whenever Link activates a Zonai touch point with his arm. this will make the controller rumble in only your right hand, so you feel just like Link! plus you can stretch or scratch with the free hand

Rail Heist was another really fun UFO 50 game. I especially like the cherry criteria
a) being different from the gold criteria, thus asking you to develop a new skill
b) leaving some room for mastery beyond the cherry

I think cherries like that are the best in the game

Already have the cherry disk for Mortol, but keep coming back to it to improve my scores. It’s just so good. It might actually be my favorite puzzle platformer… ever.

Just beat Mooncat. Really dig the idea that, in order to recapture the mysterious air of Barbuta, Thorson Petter realized it was necessary to create a completely unique sidescrolling control scheme. Figuring out how the controls worked gave me a similar vibe to solving puzzles in Barbuta

really liking UFO 50 so far

Zelda and Metroid are pretty similar in the way they reuse gameplay elements, plot events, and even characters from game to game. But while Zelda came up with this whole reincarnation/prophetic cycle thing, Metroid all happens to the same Samus and just comes up with bespoke bullshit for each entry

Metroid Prime is a wonderful game, but I really really did not like the penultimate boss. Together with the two Retro DKC games, they’re three for three on amazing games I love with one lategame boss I passionately hate. Weirdly specific thing for a studio to be consistent at

Played the Constance demo. Liked it a lot! Excited for the game to come out

I wrote a review of OoT. Being for a very old game, its more for personal practice than to convince anyone of anything about the game.

Practiced being more concise with this one. Final review is about half the length of the drafts, and I think it’s better for it

If I had played this game in 1998 I might think it’s the greatest game of all time, too.

This was my first “traditional Zelda” and I did quite enjoy the dungeons. Such varied designs, in layou...
