'Extinct in the Wild', my 11x14" #acrylicpainting. A piece inspired by the plight of species that survive only in captivity, their native habitats made unsafe by human action. Featured is a Spix's #macaw, a #bird currently in the process of restoration. #extinction #art #birdart #unicorn #animalart

#KirtlandsWarbler is a fire-dependent bird species, nesting only in the new jack pines that grow following a burn. With most fires suppressed nowadays, the #endangered birds rely on human intervention to survive. My #gouache painting is titled ‘Prescribed Burn’. #conservation #birdart #animalart

Did you know the word ‘extinction’ existed for hundreds of years before it came to mean the loss of a species? It originally referred to the dousing of a candle. 🕯️

‘The Etymology of Loss’ from my series ‘Parakeet Lost’, focusing on the extinct parrot of North America, the Carolina Parakeet. 🦜
