We cannot have moral and ethical leadership because we cannot agree upon what that is. We say morality is universal, yet our inability to agree upon what is and is not moral reveals just how subjective it really is.

I am no longer a follower nor do I have any desire to be followed. I am however interested in joining with others seeking to live an examined life.

While authoritarianism is our nature we sadly do not all bow to the same authority. We form tribes that do, which then fight with other tribes in a battle for dominance.

High intelligence does not insulate one from the pitfalls of tribalism. Loyalty to the tribe makes us all stupid. The intelligent thing to do is to have no loyalty to anyone or any group as it is the loyalty that biases us.

Loyalty trumps intelligence.

I have experienced long periods of moral complacency where I spent no time considering my own moral failings. In such periods I have either became comfortable with my immorality or deluded myself into thinking I have achieved moral perfection. Neither is psychologically healthy.

In politics if you are not offending both sides then you are failing as a critical thinker. It’s not about pissing people off but neither is it about playing favorites or knuckling under to appease all.
