Milwaukee—and Wisconsin overall—had a complex but thoughtful AIDS response. I’m finding powerful collaborations alongside real tension over strategy, geography, and philosophy. Corporate philanthropy played a big role too, reminding me how vital it is to listen closely to those around us.

@reaching4divine.bsky.social and I were discussing the curse of knowledge and it got me thinking about a turn of phrase that kept rolling around in my brain as I was pondering the title of my next exhibit, which is about #AIDS in #Milwaukee.

Oh, and I've just about finalized my choices for the VIP history tour and wine tasting. Yes, science, queer history, and wine 🥂 It's the gayest, Wisconsin-ist program I could think of.

Feeling a lot of affinity with librarians at the Wisconsin Association of Public Librarians conference in Oshkosh, WI. I got to tour their library (wow, huge!) and heard lots of lovely things about both @oshkoshpride.bsky.social and @uwoshkosh.bsky.social -- I'll have to check ya'll out soon!

I'm in the throes of research, chasing leads and gathering new facts and perspectives. These just came in the mail... 2 HUGE, heavy books (in weight as well as subject matter) and a documentary DVD produced by @pbs.org to help me on my journey to understanding Milwaukee's response to AIDS.
