🗺️ In May 2007, David Charbonneau and Heather Knutson created the first map of an exoplanet!

Using data from the Spitzer Space Telescope, they mapped the surface of HD 189733 b, a hot Jupiter located 64 light-years away.

On Sunday, 47 🇵🇹 teachers joined an engaging Exo4Edu workshop led by Gustavo Rojas (#GHOU) during the Portuguese Science on Stage Festival 2025! 🪐

Do you know how exoplanets get their names? 🤔

Each one is named after the star it orbits, followed by a lowercase letter. The first planet discovered gets the letter “b”, then come c, d, and so on. 🔤

Do you know the name of the closest exoplanet to the Solar System?

Its name is Proxima Centauri b, and it was discovered by the @eso.org on August 2016. It orbits around Proxima Centauri, the closest star to the Sun, located 4,25 light-years away from Earth!
