Exeter councillors will be discussing next week whether this May’s local elections should be postponed, following a government request for views linked to local government reorganisation.

The decision will be debated at the Council meeting on Tue 13 Jan.

The City Council has activated its Severe Weather Emergency Protocol, offering emergency accommodation while the cold snap continues. It's in place until Mon 5 Jan and will be reviewed then.

Almost 200 toys and gifts have been donated to children at the RD&E Hospital, thanks to the amazing kindness of staff and members at our leisure centres.

The gifts were delivered to the Children’s Emergency Department and Bramble Ward.

Great news for Exeter’s climate goals.

Six council buildings - including the Arena, St Sidwell’s Point, and the Bus Station - will be getting solar panels next year. It’s a big step in cutting carbon emissions and will save around £100,000 a year too.

🎄 Just a quick reminder as we head into the festive season: Christmas wrapping paper and cards can’t go in your green recycling bin in Exeter.

✅ Brown paper can be recycled – as long as it’s brown on both sides and free from glitter or foil.

On Saturday, Magdalen Road turns merry for the Christmas Fair - the road’s closed to traffic from 2–6pm with live music, stalls, food, drink and plenty of festive cheer.

Then on Sunday, the Santa Run takes over the city centre!

New rules mean postal vote applications now only last for 3 years. If you applied before 30 Jan 2024, you’ll need to reapply by 31 Jan 2026 to keep voting by post.
