Ellie, our Archivist, recently gave us a preview of this ‘famous scrapbook’ of Mr Hart – Head Virger here at Exeter Cathedral in the 1930s-50s. It features lots of cartoons given to Mr Hart by his friend, the journalist and cartoonist, Harold Murray! ✍️

Last week, we received an unexpected message from Exmouth artist, Melanie: “I spent many happy hours drawing your magnificent Cathedral. It has been framed. Would you like this as a gift?” On Wednesday, we met Melanie and photographed her presenting her beautiful drawing to the Dean!

Incredible experience to see the Exeter Book up close. I was genuinely starstruck. Written c. 970 and believed to be the oldest surviving book of English literature in the world!
