Wow!
Women are principal investigators (PI) in approximately 1/3 of federal grants.
But when you look at nearly 1400 terminated grants at NSF, those led by women as PIs count for nearly 2/3!
Rampant sexism when getting these grants, rampant sexism when losing them…
"Women are PIs on 58% of the canceled grants, although they are PIs on only 34% of all active NSF grants.

Similarly, Blacks are PIs on 17% of the terminated grants, although they make only 4% of the total pool. Hispanic PIs and those with disabilities were twice as likely to lose a grant."
Another scoop from Jeff Mervis (@policyhound.bsky.social): NSF's ~1400 grant terminations have disproportionately affected PIs from groups underrepresented in science: women, racial & ethnic minorities, & those with disabilities. 1/3

Happy New Year! 🎆🎊🎈
Elections, cancer treatments, a whole bunch of other struggles and headaches but we’re here, 2025!
May this be a more hopeful and pleasant year for everyone. ❤️

Let’s just forget about elections and hand over every municipal, local and federal office to the super rich of that area and call a quits to democracy!
That’s how it was anyway, lords, dukes, aristocracy held all the power and $$, they were so rich, could not have had conflict of interest!
BASH: One of the concerns is that Elon Musk has billions tied up in govt contracts. You don't see a conflict of interest?

CHRIS SUNUNU: Everyone has a conflict of interest

BASH: But that's a pretty big one

SUNUNU: He's so rich he's removed from the potential financial influence

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
I wanted to share a mini video lecture we recorded in Turkey during early COVID. My Russia-Ukraine example on levels of analysis still seem valid.
Hope you’d enjoy.😊

Blue Sky Dostları,

Athletes or equipment? This is hilarious! 😆

Now, you all might be surprised but, chances are, the annual cost of a single horse for the equestrian team might be more than the salary of a tenure-track faculty…🤷🏻‍♀️
I say, the joke is on us!

Hope all the Syrians from all denominations, ethnicities and walks of life could come together and build a peaceful country together.

Everyone is happier in their home. Around holidays, it pains me to think about millions of children shuffled across borders because grown ups can’t stop fighting.

Does he have the character traits to lead the entire Department of Defense? That’s what the Senate will decide…
Just look at his attitude even towards the Fox camera person.
If he becomes a secretary, he’s in public office paid by our tax $$, and needs to answer to everyone. Hope he understands it
Hegseth: I don't answer to anyone in this group, none of you, not to that camera at all. I answer to President Trump.. I answer to the 50— the 100 senators who are part of this process and those in the committee.

It’s the end of the year. As I renew my journal/newspaper subscriptions, I can’t help but recall a Pew post election survey:
Top source of political news for a great majority of voters were social media. Next highest, YouTube & cable news. Newspapers and magazines were at the bottom of the list!

France is trying to dodge the bullet. The ICC stature explicitly states NO IMMUNITY to heads of states, governments, members of parliament, etc. in Article 27.
Some shocking nonsense from France here. No one gets immunity from an ICC arrest warrant because they're in office - not Netanyahu, not Putin, no one.
