I'm going to be abundantly real; the image of Samus as a silent, stoic, morally gray space mercenary coldly hunting down aliens for a paycheck is straight up not supported by any Metroid media. It's a tourist's perception of the character.

This is another frustrating misconception. "Nintendo" here actually means, specifically, Kensuke Tanabe, the director of the Metroid Prime games. Yoshio Sakamoto is the director and writer of the "main" games. Samus literally hunts down criminals in the mangas.
By far our funniest Metroid revelation was learning that Nintendo always meant something completely different when they called Samus a bounty hunter

In all seriousness, there's so much footage of this game without any trooper dudes in it, and the trailer is pretty explicit they are only around for short scenes. This game isn't gonna be a Marvel movie.

You'd think with how every new title is somehow fundamentally Not Metroid and Metroid Is Ruined Forever Now that we'd have stopped getting games about 23 years ago, or at least the broader collective consciousness of fandom could get a fucking grip.

I also remember Prime 1 being criticized for "chasing the shooter trend", Prime 2 for "chasing survival horror", Prime 3 for literally the same shit as Fusion, Other M for killing the series with bad dialogue and plot writing, and Fed Force, and M:SR, and Dread. Curious how the series trucks on.

I was online to see the reception to Metroid Fusion, and how it got slammed for the excessive dialogue, how intrusive Adam is with unsolicited directions, the simplified and linear exploration, more handholding with the map and world design, more focus on combat and action setpieces.

I think Samus having a heart is a cool and very important part of her character but if you lean too much into it ,specially with the "heroines are like mothers 🥹" stereotypes, it gets eye rolling
