We shared our thoughts about Metroid Prime 4 over on our SFW, if you want to go read them!
So, I recently beat Metroid Prime 4. My ending impression is same as the first, this game is actually very good! There's a lot I found to be lacking, but most complaints I've read about the game have no merit. Despite it all though, this game feels like meeting with an old friend. It's a solid 8/10.

Metroid has roots in Alien, but I don't agree with the majority that Metroid MUST be more or less an adaptation of it; Metroid has even STRONGER roots in 80's sci-fi anime such as Lensman. Prime 4's coolest trick is deciding to build itself around *that* fantasy, of being a badass space superhero.

I've avoided much of the reviews/discussion coming from games journalists + online personalities, and frankly I've found it very odd how eagerly people have accepted the framing of the discussion of this game from the bad faith sectors of games journalism, that has given the field such a bad rep.

Prime 4 is rich with atmosphere, which is the primary draw to Metroid for me. And the artistry of the game really does make me believe that Retro still makes the most finely crafted video game worlds ever. The fact that my Switch OLED ran it without so much as stuttering once is miraculous.
