Baby Face Willette was born on this day September 11, 1933 in Little Rock, Arkansas. After appearing as a sideman with Lou Donaldson & Grant Green in 1961 the organist made 2 excellent Blue Note albums of his own: "Face to Face" and "Stop And Listen" store.bluenote.com/collections/...

Bobby Hutcherson might be best-known for his albums in the post-bop and avant-garde jazz realm, but the vibraphonist always had a Latin tinge to his music. This came to a head on his 1975 album “Montara’.

Although John Coltrane’s seminal album “A Love Supreme” was recorded at a time when stereo when becoming more prevalent, it was originally released in mono. Sterling Sound’s Ryan Smith has remastered a new mono edition, the first available in 50 years.

Chiefly recorded a few months after “A Love Supreme”, this stunning 1965 album was one of the last to showcase the famous Quartet during John Coltrane’s lifetime, and also featured their famous cover version of “Chim Chim Cheree” from “Mary Poppins”.

Sonny Clark defined the Blue Note sound of the late 1950s, but his promising career was cut short when he passed away at age 31. The pianist was inspired by moving to New York to realise his hard bop vision for his second album as leader: “Sonny’s Crib”.
