1/ Wastewater disease surveillance is a great early warning system for public health. It can alert health departments about diseases in the area before any cases are confirmed by doctors. Despite it's utility, the Trump administration is set to cut funding for this program from $125 to $25 million.

On Tuesday the Trump administration decided to end $2 billion worth of funds to help people experiencing addiction, homelessness, and mental illness in a "huge screw" you move to a large portion of Americans. This would drastically affect many street-level care efforts. www.npr.org/2026/01/14/n...

An interesting study shows that a diet high in casein, a protein in milk and cheese, and high in wheat gluten can help fight cholera infection. They saw a 100-fold decrease in cholera colonization compared to high carb or high fat diets in mice. news.ucr.edu/articles/202...

1/ The US HHS and CDC have changed, and decreased their childhood vaccine recommendations from 17 down to 10. This is a mistake and will get more kids sick and killed. They state that "Trust in U.S. public health declined from 72% to 40% between 2020 and 2024...." Yeah, it is because you lied.

19 states sued the US HHS over their policies that deny gender affirming care to young people. They say that these policies are inaccurate and unlawful and should be blocked. I wish them luck. Safe gender affirming care is important to many people and should not stopped. apnews.com/article/laws...

I am working on a video about the breadth of public health beyond epidemiologists etc. So many professions work to prevent disease, promote health, and prolong life including trash collectors, water treatment, civil engineers, etc. Any other ideas of professions you may have would be appreciated.
