I’m fighting with myself to see this as the accomplishment that it actually is but I had to be brutally honest with myself when I made that goal at the beginning of the year, and for a bit there I didn’t think I’d even do this. Small steps. I’m getting myself back in small steps

* IT'S ALL I WANTED. TO [[Showroom]] YOU A [small] TASTE OF [[HyperlinkBlocked]]. Slowly, he pushes himself up, the blankets shifting off his shoulders. The heavy weight of Tenna's arm across his waist keeps him pinned, but he doesn't push far. Spamton just stares into that dark screen and begs himself to see it as it is. There are no cracks, no scratches or blemishes on the glass despite how a dark shadow lays across the screen. Tenna is fine and safe. His hand shakes and he doesn't even realize as he reaches out and grips the edge of the plastic casting. They are safe and sound in a big comfortable bed and there is no snow and dust surrounding them and there is no frantic yelling somewhere in the distance and he isn't crying. The plastic of Tenna's casting is solid under his hand. The bedsheets and pillowcases are soft beneath his body. Tenna's arm is heavy on top of him, and the dark is quiet. A finger scratches against plastic. * FOR YOU, [[Cathode]]. He stares. His hand shakily slides along the casting until it rests on top, the side of Tenna's screen, and Spamton drags himself forward. It's too dark to see his own reflection on that black screen and it is a little blessing he will never admit to. * YOU [[???: File Not Found]] WHAT IT [[For Intended Purposes]]. FOR YOU. FOR YOU. IT WAS [[All Or Nothing]] FOR YOU. He presses further more, until his forehead gently knocks against the hollow glass of Tenna's screen, and he feels the gentle soft sensation of the static radiating from it. He stills. He drags his head a little further down the screen, dispersing the fuzzy static more, then holds very still. He doesn't know for how long. Finally he sighs and sinks into himself and the dark screen. * I'M THE BIGGEST [[Clown Around Town]]. I JUST WaNTED [[HyperlinkBlocked]]. I WAN TeD [HyperlinkBlocked]]. I WANT3D yOU TO KNOW [HyperlinkBlocked]]. His hand slips from the casting, and he slips further down Tenna's screen until he hits the pillow beneath, and sinks into it, pressing himself further into the glass and casting like trying to hide away in the corner of an alley. The plastic clinks as he burrows further, little wires and springs of his joints settlings into themselves and finally he stills and quiets again. Only briefly, Tenna shudders.

A strawpage anon message: drabble about spamtenna: Spamton struggling to communicate his feelings to tenna, tenna trying to avoid receiving the message. There's a lingering scent of ozone and burnt plastic hanging in the air. The light, crisp scent twining with the thick, heavy air he's sure will stick to the bedsheets for a while yet. It presses down the more he recognizes it, the more familiar it is and the way it creeps in like a faint memory. It's more than faint. The weight of it is near crushing and Tenna is asleep. It had been impulsive, as most things are with him. Tenna asking too many questions, those hands wandering and lingering in places setting off alarm bells like car horns in his head and it had to stop. It had to move, don't touch that, don't look at that, don't worry about it. Shove his hands somewhere else, shove the questions to the side, there's not enough room for them if his mouth is preoccupied with his teeth. Spamton doesn't want to talk about it. It's easier to just feel than to think, and Tenna wouldn't find satisfaction in the answers he seeks anyway. Surely he wouldn't. From his little bundle of blankets and arms he's tangled in, Spamton stares at that dark blank screen as it rests sunken into the pillow. There's the urge, lying just beneath, to get up and leave. Tenna's bed is large, soft, and luxurious. Just like before, like he remembers. Spamton feels the weight of the blanket alone pressing down on him and it's a grounding, secure weight. it leaves him on edge, like he'll get tangled up in the sheets and comforter if he tries to move, let alone from the weight of the arms around him. He could slip out and maybe Tenna wouldn't notice. Spamton shifts just enough to wiggle one of his arms free. It rests against the pillow and sheets. Tenna lays beside him, encompassing everything, still and quiet. A small plastic finger scratches against the pillowcase. * ...YOU WANT TO [[Listen Here!]] A JOKE, [[Boobtube]]? It is an effort to keep his own voice down, to something even resembling reasonable and not crack the stillness of the dark bedroom. Tenna remains quiet and comfortable, and it's only in these little in-between times that there's a chance of honesty able to exist. That little finger scratches a little harder until the rest ball the fabric into his fist.

I like thinking about how he looks at Tenna

He looks at Tenna. He looks at him and he sees the first time they went for drinks together outside of work. The coy and animated way Tenna spoke, nudged the line just as much as he was returning it right back—he remembers being absolutely enamored with the way his screen would subtly shift in color, like a gem shard held up to the light. He remembers his bombastic laugh, the way that laugh would take up his entire body, fill the entire room and it was the most fitting thing for him. It shouldn't be any other way. Tenna is so dim now, but Spamton still looks at him like he remembers. He wishes he wouldn't, if just for the selfish reason that it would be easier on his already cracked heart, and so he could know where to put it. He doesn't know where to put it. Tenna should have shattered out in that field and it would all be so much easier, he should have died, he should have stayed dead, it shouldn't have hurt when he thought he was dead, and yet — * YOU WANNA HEAR [[A Real Zinger]], [Trash Hea- His hand slaps against the table top and abruptly stops himself. He's trying.

"I swear, Tens, it's nothing like you've seen. The lights, the sounds, the action. Oh, Tens. Tenna baby, you're gonna love it." The smoke from Tenna's cigarette gently seeps out his vents and he stares out across the white empty fields. Spamton could swear it goes on forever, and to Tenna, he thinks it probably does. Spamton taps the ash off his own cigarette to his side and watches it disappear in the snow and dust at their feet. Tenna is still staring out across that field, his arms mostly folded, save the cigarette lingering between his fingers. The glow of his screen catches the flecks of snow falling and the way it shines just makes Spamton think of the city skyline, all those little lights in the distance flickering in and out, always shifting, always moving. It's quiet and gentle out here and perhaps a bigger man than him would find satisfaction in that. "You think so?" Tenna finally breathes out. Spamton takes a drag of his cigarette, watching those specks of light. "I just know it. I'll show you the whole damn city. You'll be big, Tens. We'll be big. I just know it."

"How am I supposed to keep just blindly trusting you when you act like this?" Spamton's hand curls into a fist on the desk. "Tenna-" "And what do you expect me to do, Spamton? This isn't just about us, I have a studio to run and people to answer to BESIDES you, and I can't keep giving vague answers to cover for your insecurity!" A mug suddenly smashes against the far wall behind Spamton. He whirls back round, jabbing an accusatory finger towards Tenna. There are daggers in his eyes. "And I have my OWN shit breathing down my neck! You have NO IDEA what the hell you're talking about—" "That's the PROBLEM! I don't know! What am I supposed to do when my partner just ups and leaves with no explanation? I'm just baffled! What is so important they can't leave a message? What do you expect me to do!?"

Tenna's hands are wandering tonight, more than usual, more than he remembers they used to. Something about his hands cling, fingers digging deep into the fabric of Spamton's jacket, sneaking their way under cloth until bare metal slides against plastic. Spamton's hand slips away from the ridge of Tenna's screen to hold onto that wrist. Tenna seems to press further into the kiss, tongue more eagerly pressing against teeth. It's different now and he doesn't know if it's for the better or not, for what little that sort of thought means. He remembers when he'd drag Tenna to the back, into his office and shove him down onto the couch. He remembers the way Tenna's screen would burn bight and the tingle of the static between their lips, against his own tongue and Tenna acts like he couldn't possibly hold him any closer, any tighter. It went straight to his head. It's different now. Spamton presses further, leans over Tenna's screen and the CRT whines like he's being deprived, and only faintly can Spamton feel the static against his face. His free hand runs across the glass surface, and it's the barest of sensations against his plastic fingers. Tenna hums against the touches, and he doesn't know this isn't like how it used to be. Spamton used to be fascinated with the sensation. He used to drag his finger over the curve of the glass when Tenna would bend at the spine and he'd swear he'd feel the discharge more the more worked up Tenna was, the more current was surging through his system. He misses kissing him just at the right time he could feel that static coarse through his mouth. There is metal against plastic where it used to be a cold and tantilizing touch. He pushes himself up and has to push Tenna's screen back down into the pillow to keep him from chasing after. Plastic fingers still on a metal wrist grip a little tighter.

His fingers playfully start to probe at that large wrist, toying with the gaps, the connection rods and joint with care, before they slip beneath Tenna's pristine glove. His eyes don't leave Tenna's screen, that soft, enticing glow the warmest thing in the whole room. The warmest thing he's ever seen — save one. That's a cruel comparison, he knows, but it's exactly why he wants Tenna to see it as well. It's just another one of Tenna's contracts. Make it official, no under the desk dealings, no loopholes to needle a little more out of. Just the two of them. Ink touches paper. A ring weighs in his pocket. Make it official. Make It Official. Sign The Contract. The phone rings. The phone. It's for him. No, not now. Not now. I have to take that— Cathode, I really gotta take that— Stop. I gotta - I gotta go — Stop. Just fucking stop and leave it alone, I-I need to — The receiver clatters to the floor. And Tenna is crying above him. Tenna. Tenna is crying. It's all falling apart. "You good, Cathode?" His antennae shoot up, and his screen lifts to face down the hallway. Spamton is shutting the door behind him with his heel as he digs through the inside pocket of his jacket. The tension in Tenna's shoulders lessen, though a finger still taps against his small highball glass. "Oh! I'm fine. Great, actually!" Spamton looks up to him, pausing his rummaging through his pocket, unconvinced. The tapping of glass continues. "Whatever you say, big guy." He finally pulls a small box from his jacket and taps the bottom until a cigarette peaks out enough from the rest. "Though if you ask me," he says with a forced offhandedness before he bites the end of the cigarette with his teeth and pull it out; he ofters the open end to Tenna. "Looks like you could use a smoke." He's already digging out the lighter from a trouser pocket. Tenna is quiet and he only realizes it's been too long when Spamton shakes the box at him. His whole frame loosens, and he gingerly picks a cigarette out from it. "Yeah, you're probably right," he sighs. "'Course I am." The lighter flicks on with a spark as he's tucking the cigarettes back away. A few puffs, and the cigarette lights with a trail of smoke and the lighter snaps closed and slips back into his trouser pocket. "So what's got your wires in a tangle this time? Those exec dunces breathing down your neck again? Wrap parties ain't the place to be worrying about that shit, you were great out there." Tenna turns away and waves him off, a couple fingers lifting off his glass as he tries to hide his smile and gratitude. "You're just saying that to butter me up." "It working? Can always help you out a bit with that wire management if you need, too," he says behind a hand as he takes another drag on the cigarette. Tenna looks at him again with a huff, seeing right through the little salesman and playing right into it. A smile waivers on his screen as he tries to stifle it. "Are you going to give me a light or not?" he says with playful faux annoyance. The CRT leans down enough to be closer to the other's height, and holds the cigarette to his own mouth. Spamton just watches, gently gnaws on the end of his cigarette before a grin splits his face. They lean in, like its natural, tilting heads with a practiced and expected ease as they angle the ends of their cigarettes until they touch, until a smoke trail wafts between them and they breathe deep.
