A row of six white-ish marble and plaster tombs, all but one with wrought iron fences around the front proceed into the distance diagonally across the frame from left to right. The tombs are all heavily weathered with a dark patina of age and cracks in the walls and roofs. The fence around the second closest tomb is topped with iron fleur-de-lis. Inset carved marble plaques of the second and third tombs read “Famille Joseph Cirol.” The path in front of the tombs is a patchy mix of asphalt and grass, scattered with fallen leaves.

The famous black angel in Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Artist Mario Korble created this for Teresa Dolezal Feldevert to watch over the grave of her son. Though no one was left to add her year of death, she is buried here with her 2nd husband.

Black and white image: an almost cubic concrete base is topped with a bronze angel with a dark black patina. Her right arm and wing are raised as she looks down. Jennie Roosevelt Pool was a cousin of President “Teddy” Roosevelt. Her sister, Katherine Babcock, chose this 7-ton Carrera marble statue, a 1911 reproduction by Antonio Bernieri of the “Angel of Grief Over the Dismantled Altar of Life” in Rome by William Wetmore Story to mark her sister’s grave.

Père Lachaise Cemetery was established in Paris in 1804 to help replace the Cimetière des Innocents, which was closed due to overcrowding. It is now the final home of more than a million Parisians (perhaps, as many as 4 million, depending on how you count).

It's the time of year when the veil separating social networks thins: crossover #TombTuesday

This wonderful structure stands at Grace Episcopal Church in Saint Francisville, LA. It is one of the oldest Protestant churches in the area, the surrounding cemetery is reputed to be thoroughly haunted.
A decaying brick-and-clay tomb, cracked almost in half vertically stands in the middle ground, atop a leaf-littered lawn and against a dense backdrop of trees. A Primitive culvert in the foreground is barred by an old ironwork grate.

Experiment for the OpenPress Project+Haus des Papers Rising Print exhibit: embossed off-center Celtic spiral. I did this using a plate of glued-up laser-cut MDF on a heavyweight Arches paper using the OpenPressProject’s Postcard Printing Press.

Chocolate miso ice cream with a sprinkle of black garlic powder! I almost made it through the summer without an odd ice cream experiment. Despite your likely expectations, this is very good!

Did you know your MacBook has a sensor that knows the exact angle of the screen hinge?

It’s not exposed as a public API, but I figured out a way to read it and make it sound like an old wooden door.

My friend Georgie came up with a clever thing to do with some of my washi tape. These origami “lucky stars” are pretty easy to make, and look cool with the Celtic art washi tape.

My mom used this Olympia SM-7 Portable typewriter to write papers in college. It is a little unusual in that it types in a script (cursive) font.
