I’m super pleased with how this photo turned out! Of all the images I captured at the Toronto Orchid Show, my favorite wasn’t of an orchid at all—but of dried lilac suspended along the hallway ceiling where we were queued before entering the first exhibit room.

Lens used: 1979 Pancolar 50mm ƒ/1.8

But I like equal amounts of monospace on both sides. 🤭

Maybe the third time’s the charm. He should try again next month. 🤭

This 19th-century Iranian ox-headed mace is hilarious. The nostrils and ears are hollow, so it emits an owl-like hoot when you swing it!

Imagine an army wielding these things, with every strike accompanied by a *hoot*, followed by a resounding *CLANG* as it smashes into their opponents. 🤭

Wow, women in Norway generally range between 166 and 167.2 cm in height! That’s a wide range!

1.2 cm! 😱

I’m at a high tea with my wife and daughter-in-law.

I’m drinking a tea called Cinnamon Roll, which has this bronze glitter in it!

I’ve never had sparkly tea before! It’s pretty. But I wonder what the glitter is. Either way, it’s delicious.

This is such an amazing puzzle. Which of these figures is the true anomaly?

Answer: it’s the one that looks the LEAST anomalous!

• 2 is the only one without an outline
• 3 is the only square
• 4 is the only green figure
• 5 is the only small figure

Some more test shots with my Carl Zeiss Jena Pancolar 50mm ƒ/1.8.

…of fake flowers in my office.

I got this 1979 Pancolar lens for about $50 because it had fungus inside, as you can see in the first photo (the fungal starbursts).

So I disassembled the lens and cleaned the two back elements with isopropyl alcohol and hydrogen peroxide.

I now have a clean, fungus-free lens!

Testing out my new Carl Zeiss Jena Pancolar 50mm ƒ/1.8 after I cleaned the fungus from the back elements.

Not bad for a lens I got for less than $50 including shipping!

Here is a direct comparison of key details.

1. The light knight heads show comparable sharpness, but the dark knight heads look slightly blurred in the Sigma photos
2. Sigma: bases look blurry; Laowa: bases are sharp
3. Sigma: bases look curved; Laowa: bases look straight (no lens distortion)

Testing out my new Laowa 90mm ƒ/2.8 APO and comparing it with my old Sigma 50mm ƒ/2.8 EX DG Macro.

Two things are particularly noticeable:
1. The Laowa has edge-to-edge sharpness; the Sigma shows blur at the bases.
2. The Sigma shows lens distortion at the bases; not the Laowa.

Testing my new macro lens on a 1947–1951 Red Combine knight (king height: 11 cm). This lens can magnify to 2 times the original size!

At this level of magnification, you can clearly see that he has a beauty mark, and he is wearing some fashionable eyeliner. 🤭
