A recent study compared 200M+ citsci records accessed via GBIF with official data from 30 European countries and found that 50% of invasions were detected earlier or in the same year by citsci.

DYK that Europe avails of an #EarlyWarning system on #InvasiveAlienSpecies? It is called NOTSYS, and allows Member States to report detection of IAS of Union concern (Reg. 1143/2014) and warn all MS. #Flatworms #ObamaNungara & #BipaliumKewense recent detection a growing concern.

🟠 This #InvasiveAlienSpecies has very few natural predators in introduced environments.
🌱It preys on native bee species, negatively impacting agriculture and other insect species, and can also carry pathogens.

A single plant can make 600 copies! It’s a major threat, known for suffocating native species & damaging coastal tourism/fishing. The #GuardIAS project is creating an early warning system in Greece.
