Ethiopia reduced FGM among women aged 15-29 from 47% in 2016 to 38.9% in 2024, according to a 2024 survey by the Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA). UNICEF says progress is clear, but more must be done to eliminate FGM by 2030. #ZeroToleranceForFGM

Approximately 99,000 people are affected across 3 regions—60,000 in #Afar and 20,000 in #Oromia and 9,000 in #Amahara—and many residents are uncertain about the appropriate actions to take. About 70,000 people have already relocated & the gov’t is working to evacuate another almost 30,000 people.

As of January 11, UN OCHA reports two injuries from seismic activity in Ethiopia. Over 60,000 people have been evacuated, including 51,456 in #Afar and 20,325 in #Oromia. Emergency shelters are in place, with 16 schools severely damaged and 21 partially affected.
