Pellegrino Matarazzo’s Real Sociedad defeat Barcelona and put an end to their 11 game winning run.

AFCON makes the most outlandish footballing script seem conservative. There’s nothing like it.

Congrats Senegal

Alex Remiro with a show stopping save to deny Barcelona a sure goal.
January 18, 2026 at 9:35 PM
Brahim Diaz, you ding dong. Justice.

You cannot give that penalty to Morocco after disallowing Senegal’s goal.

Expected a lot more from this Betis - Villarreal match. So much talent delivering so little.

Nuno with an inspired stoppage time sub. Callum Wilson’s goal earns West Ham a crucial win and may just spell the end of Thomas Frank’s tenure at Spurs.

Still early so understandable, but the discernible differences between Rosenior and Maresca’s tactics are Reece James’ role and that Chelsea sit in a deeper block.

Guardiola will refer to his decimated back line and a red that should have been shown to Dalot, but Manchester United were revved-up for the match and disciplined in their approach, while the Spaniard made a number of dubious decisions, staring with his line-up.

Fully deserved Manchester United lead. Have threatened throughout in transition and have defended with tremendous discipline in a 442.

Manchester City have done little of more except boss possession.

Things are going well at the Bernabeu …

Eric Ramsay loses at home in his first game in charge of West Brom against Boro of Adil Malanda and Aidan Morris.

Ousmane Demebele just scored a ridiculous goal. The kind that you score in pick-up and spend the rest of your days telling everyone about it.

Weirder Bremen have done well to turn the tables on Frankfurt. Less than 10 mins away from a first win in 7.
January 16, 2026 at 9:21 PM
Has enough been said/written about how well Hugo Viana has done at Manchester City?

Milan changed formation to reinforce the midfield and have Leão play in his preferred position. It didn’t prevent Como from playing through their midfield, but Leão and Rabbiot’s quality, as well as Maignan’s saves, have Milan on top.
January 15, 2026 at 9:04 PM
The contrast between Como and Milan is illustrative of what happens when you build a team to reflect a particular style of play under a coach with time to work, and one without a clear sporting direction, constantly triggering managerial changes, reduced to hodgepodge signings.

I’m assuming that now that João Cancelo has signed for Barcelona, Jules Koundé can reclaim his title as one of the best center-backs in La Liga. Lest we forget, that’s exactly what he was at Sevilla.

Thiago Silva appreciation post. 41 and still playing at an elite level with flawless skin.

The two best teams at this AFCON meet in the final.

Gyökeres has bought himself some grace. Goal and an assist at Stamford Bridge.
January 14, 2026 at 9:58 PM
Calvin Bassey has had an imperious AFON. Another standout performance.

Semenyo is living a charmed life.

and we’re back
January 12, 2026 at 6:17 PM
After decades of process managers/head coaches, we’ve reverted back to an era of pragmatists. Time is of the essence. That’s especially the case at big clubs. Xabi Alonso tried to assert a blueprint, but ultimately capitulated to pressures. The Supercup betrayed his surrender.
