Today would have been the 120th birthday of my grandfather, Charles Horowitz. He was very quiet, very reasonable, and very gentle. And he was very radical in the sense that he believed that justice belonged to everybody.

My mother was never allowed to go swimming with her friends as a child because of the risk of polio. She was happy to be able to raise children who were mostly safe and free.

Then they pull a number of out of their butt. “There will be 23,000 deaths a year.” Why not 22K?

If somebody thinks that they can govern a country relying only on military force, they may want to have a look at the other times that has been tried (keeping in mind that in most cases it was by military forces that had some knowledge of the country).
