Dramatik bir tarihi olay içindeki yoksunluğun ve felaketin Chaplin sinemasına yansıması ise devrim niteliğindeydi. Bu devrim, trajedinin ve mizahın birbirinden çok da uzak olmadığının unutulmaz bir kanıtı oldu.
