However, you measure innovation. It’s very difficult to call products that discriminate against marginalised groups as “progress”…unless, of course, you are ‘making bank’ in the gold rush.

Even in the age of code assistants. Understanding algorithms, data structures, coding best practises and system architectures remains essential to making informed decisions.

…but people can possess all these abilities, and still fail a code test.

Weapons of Math Destruction was an unsettling read when it was first published. Nearly a decade later, one of the most troubling aspects is not just the persistence of algorithmic bias; it's how normalised it's becoming.
Weapons Of Math Destruction; Eight Years On

You cannot be, what you cannot see. Statistics also suggest you cannot be in a place of work where you are unfairly treated because of your differences.

We need to keep encouraging a diverse range of individuals into tech. We also need to change the culture to keep them.

If the goal of Innovate UK is to fund projects with the greatest potential for impact, then ignoring diversity is both short-sighted and counterproductive.

Time for this to change.
Why Public Innovation Funds Should Demand Diversity in Engineering Teams.
Between 2004 and 2022 Innovate UK distributed billions in taxpayer money, to companies who have perpetuated inequality in the science and technology sector. It's time for this to change.

If you care about your privacy, and perhaps even your own personal safety; now is the time to start moving your data out of Apple’s iCloud.

A couple of weeks ago, when this standoff first came to light, we published their piece about the dangers of weakening encryption 👇
Why Weakening Encryption Endangers The Most Vulnerable
Weakening encryption doesn’t just threaten privacy—it threatens equality. When governments demand backdoors, they aren’t just targeting criminals; they’re putting the most vulnerable at risk.
