(44) Research on institutional neutrality often focuses on whether it's a good thing or bad thing.

However, I suggest that this decision to be "neutral" is contingent on various factors--both internal and external to the organization.

When I started at UCBerkeley School of Education, I was the only assistant professor. Now, there are are four of us--each with different expertise but all with the same commitment to educate like democracy depends on it.

It's our faculty retreat and we got some cool jackets!

Joined the faculty writing retreat at the UC Botanical Gardens, and so inspired to see colleagues typing away and conceptualizing their masterpieces.

Thanks Lorena Oropeza, Ilona Yim, and Karie Frasch for organizing this! Wonderful to meet Catherine Ceniza Choy, a trailblazing Filipino academic!

Really happy that my book, Subtle Webs: How Local Orgs Shape US Education, was celebrated with other books by first-time Asian and Asian-Am authors!

It's a real honor for it to be alongside other books and authors I admire. And we even had a cake with all our book covers!

Activists often argue for community involvement in the creation of predictive models & their implementation, but it's often dismissed as impractical.

Excitedly waiting for @eostrinidad.bsky.social's "Subtle Webs" on community involvement in school predictive modeling

(42) Ever wanted to use a theory but didn't know what's out there?

In this paper, I tried to distill org theory into 7 perspectives: structure, culture, relations, institutions, professions, transformation, and social conflict.

(41) We usually bemoan large bureaucracies. But what if they were more "effective"?

My book, SUBTLE WEBS, launched a month ago, and you can see the recording here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQLL...

You can buy the book at 30% off: bit.ly/subtlewebs (code: AUFLY30). Amazon says it only has one stock left, but I'm not sure if that's a FOMO tactic.

(40) "In the past two years, I have reviewed almost 30 manuscripts. It is rare that I read a manuscript and think, "I wish I had written this" or "I wish I had been part of this team." The [paper] is an impressive and important study and I commend the authors for superlative work."

Feels surreal to hold this book, a product of more than 5 years of work, thinking, research, writing, and rewriting. In a world that moves fast, a book is a testament to slowing down and letting ideas simmer.
