Female Reproductive Health: ENDO 2025 | Oxytocin and Mood in Women with Disrupted Sleep
The hormone oxytocin may shield women from mood disturbances when they face sleep disruptions in the postpartum transition or during menopause. Irene Gonsalvez, MD, describes the research she presented at ENDO 2025. “The higher the oxytocin levels the night before the sleep disruption was co-related with better mood the day after. The study results suggest that oxytocin may play a protective role and can help these women to lessen the adverse effects of estradiol suppression and sleep interruption that they have in their mood state.”— Irene Gonsalvez, MD
