As.someone who used to work in advocacy communications, I know this kind of data from companies is part of a communications and lobbying strategy. Nothing necessarily wrong with that, but it's not neutral data created for research, to build knowledge, or to inform the American people.
They’ve laid off so many people that the government is now getting its economic data from DoorDash.

the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.

"Among Asian adults [in the U.S.], 29% of Democrats have hidden their culture from others, compared with 9% of Republicans."—Pew Research Center, 2023

Puts the audacity of Zohran Mamdani's authenticity into perspective, eh?

(this says nothing about _Muslim_ Asian Americans in R spaces)

From a fun q&a about my new book:

If you could only describe your novel in five words, what would they be?

Creepy, atmospheric, and weirdly fun.

What can readers expect?

Readers can expect a feminist fable about violence, paranoia, and perfumery.

THE NIGHT IS NOT FOR YOU is out!

This spooky novel is inspired by folk traditions of the Arabian Peninsula and the Maldives, rural SW Saudi, psychological suspense, and our effed up world.

The past two years, there has been some amazing writing about what it's REALLY like to be an Arab in the "West."

(Not that we were never writing it before, just wasn't getting published too much.)

Here's another essay.

The author doesn't name names, but I will: The New Yorker. David Remnick.

I was working at the magazine as a fact-checker and my parents no longer considered me a failure, not because they read or admired it, but because when they said its name to friends and relatives it s...

It's for you if you like:

-Folklore
-Coming of age
-Game-of-Thrones-level horror

(Although if you really like to be spooked, get the audiobook. It even creeped me out!)

It’s really common for cheaply made goods available in other countries to have incorrect English or even gobbledygook on them.

Also super common for people to deny the reality of Palestinians lives and disbelieve them.
Saeed was accused of being an AI agent because his blanket had some odd words that made people suspicious. I confirmed he's absolutely real.

Ignore the title. The argument is more: "[I]n response to historic declines in literature’s value, the industry has itself become a site of more contingent and more precarious work that is more often done by women."

Which is what I've been saying for a while: Literary fiction is now pink collar.
