Guided by former chief curator Rodrigo Moura, this inside look traces Didi’s groundbreaking contributions to Afro-Brazilian modernism and his bold challenge to Eurocentric narratives in art history. Rooted in the sacred traditions of Salvador, Bahia—a city deeply connected to African heritage—Didi’s sculptural practice fuses ancestral symbolism with modernist forms, shaping a powerful and enduring Afro-Atlantic aesthetic. By presenting his work alongside contemporaries and current Afro-Brazilian artists, the exhibition positions Didi as a key progenitor of Brazilian modernism.
