Never enough time to write a blog on these thoughts, but I'd love to know who, beyond the brilliant thinkers at @cmmonwealth.bsky.social and @futureeconscot.bsky.social, is actively working on shifting our energy system into more public/community hands? The thinking is there, we need more doing.
It was great to get the chance to speak across thirteen regional BBC radio shows on Monday about the spending review and what it means for the world of housing and energy!🧵

I wish I wasn't able to say "I saw this coming", but...

So so much to take from our work at Carbon Co-op and previous experience at CLES re: the need for people to be involved in shaping the energy system to avoid this type of clash. 🧵

Great to speak about our work at the @nea-ukcharity.bsky.social Conference today in Liverpool alongside other brilliant panellists. An excellent event and lots of brilliant conversations!

I’ve got a brand new @nestauk.bsky.social blog up.

Should we try splitting the heat pump journey into two stages, with two different grants: one to get “heat pump ready”, one to fit the actual heat pump?

Getting a heat pump should be a small step not a giant leap
A "heat pump ready" service for homes could smooth the transition to clean heat

Don't mistake deindustrialisation for emissions reduction.

This chart tells a huge story of our times: we closed down our coal mines, steelworks and factories only to import products from abroad as well. We're still consuming the C02 even if we aren't producing it.
There are many charts in energy/economics but few as important as this👇.
Developed economies like to think we've delinked growth from energy/materials (green line).
What we've REALLY done is offshore energy consumption.

I'd be super interested to know whether, given GB Energy has been pitched as a UK Vattenfall or Ørsted, whether (given I've been working on PPPs around energy transition) it could act as a public sector JV partner to support the delivery of energy transition at the local level? Thoughts, views plz 🧵

Housing movement 🤝 Climate movement

But we need more links between the two.

Advancing an energy transition which prioritises energy justice also means housing justice. Better quality, warmer homes = better for the climate, our health and our pockets. We need more, better, affordable homes.
🚨TODAY: #FuelPovertyAwarenessDay is a great time to highlight that 1.19 million privately rented households are living in fuel poverty.

As energy prices continue to rise, renters are stuck in badly insulated homes spending money that we can't afford.

Really great to see this, but when I hear people say "we need to take communities with us" what we need to see is serious plans to hand assets and/or the financial benefits generated by the energy transition into the hands of communities and the public.
