Shell is doubling down on new oil and gas. This JV involves the extraction and sale of resources that are incompatible with 1.5C, which the market doesn't need, and which won't make UK energy any cheaper or more secure

Don't mistake deindustrialisation for emissions reduction.
This chart tells a huge story of our times: we closed down our coal mines, steelworks and factories only to import products from abroad as well. We're still consuming the C02 even if we aren't producing it.

I'd be super interested to know whether, given GB Energy has been pitched as a UK Vattenfall or Ørsted, whether (given I've been working on PPPs around energy transition) it could act as a public sector JV partner to support the delivery of energy transition at the local level? 🚨TODAY: #FuelPovertyAwarenessDay is a great time to highlight that 1.19 million privately rented households are living in fuel poverty.

Really great to see this, but when I hear people say "we need to take communities with us" what we need to see is serious plans to hand assets and/or the financial benefits generated by the energy transition into the hands of communities and the public.
