Ordinarily this might be fixable, but with Elon's Muskrats gutting every federal agency for both budget and staff, those fixes will become- at best- vastly slower and more error-prone.

Millions of people are likely to lose their right to vote, and their ability to acquire a passport or a gun, because of a "mismatch" between various forms of ID and/or their Birth Certificate, either in regards to gender or surname.

We've already reached the stage at which a target population (Jews, Kulaks, Trans folks, take your pick) have their travel documents frozen and ID papers confiscated for "errors" and "mismatches". This not only prevents their escape, but has the ability to expel them from civic life.

The last three weeks have left me saddened, enraged, disgusted, repulsed, and moved to grossness, but only a little surprised. The only thing that shocks me is the sheer *speed* of the American government's lurch into Fascism.

Ok, so it seems as if the Russians may have shot down another civilian airliner, one of their own this time. Damage to the surviving tail section is consistent with a blast-fragmentation SAM warhead, as is video from inside the cabin. "Porpoising" is consistent with elevator damage. Ugly business.

The Trump team are behaving as if they don't understand that Ukraine gets a vote too. This reveals that:
1: They subscribe to Putin's (and Illyn's/Dugin's) ideas of Great Power politics, and/or;
2: They expect Ukraine to reject the "deal," giving them a pretext to withdraw or cease aid.

While it doesn't look on the face of it as if the Trump Regime intends to immediately cut Ukraine off, it *does* appear that they plan to use the *threat* of a cutoff to try and force Ukraine to accept a Korea-style frozen conflict.

Yesterday the Ruble dropped from RUB/:USD 104:1 to 114:1, a loss of about 8%. Interested to see what happens today. The situation may be transforming (or may have already transformed) into a geopolitical game of chicken: the question now is, will Russia's economy collapse before Trump takes office?
