I've been playing D&D for a couple of years now and I think I took too many character creation tips from Tolkien.
In that my characters have a tendency to be fairly quiet about themselves and every ounce of backstory / trauma is in the appendicies and involves history from two ages back.

Absolute first D&D character was 5e i think named Beryl Cumsatchel. An elven monk who was supposed to look like Benedict Cumberbatch. Don't think he counts though since only played him for a session 0 and a single starting session and then dropped off.
Uvaren. Drow rogue in 3.5e; deeply foul-mouthed jerk who stole from the rich to give to the less rich (himself).
He was the ur-example for, like, 3/4 of my subsequent characters, in retrospect.

Mine was a half-elf rogue named Morestal in D&D 3.5e around 2006 or 2007. Only played for 2 or 3 sessions, but he did live!

Given the news in the past 24 hours I really hope people are looking into whether their incumbent elected officials voted to increase funding for ICE and then ask if they plan to still do it.

Seeing "the discourse" about villains in new trek vs old trek has been hilarious because the takes are...inventive.
But one thing that irks me is the emperor Georgiou slander.
She was never, at any point in Discovery, a villain. Not in any definition beyond the simplistic mirror universe = evil

My cosplay hot take is that posts reminding folks to wear dancebelts/undergarments can shift very quickly from a friendly reminder to a very unhealthy and creepy obsession with controlling the appearance of another person's genitalia.
