Despite what’s not quite right with Popcorn, it’s like the mother of Scream, and New Nightmare is the father. Spring time was in the air, and New Nightmare looked to Popcorn and said, “Hey Foxy, wanna get it on?” And then Scream was born 9 months later. I love Popcorn. Down to Tom Villard’s villain.

I noticed on my watch of the Shout disc and was wondering to myself if those corridors were really meant to be so pale; the Dragon Dynasty disc jumps from pastel to deep and vibrant from cut to cut.

I don’t have a Blu Ray drive on my desktop to do a screen grab so this is how the Dragon Dynasty Blu looks like on my TV. Somewhere between the Shout and Arrow versions. I admit the Shout 4K really washed some of the blues into pastel, but at least it’s consistent.

I don’t have a Blu Ray drive on my desktop to do a screen grab so this is how the Dragon Dynasty Blu looks like on my TV. Somewhere between the Shout and Arrow versions. I admit the Shout 4K really washed some of the blues into pastel, but at least it’s consistent.
Okay looking it up: Arrow is using the same underlying digital scan and restoration Shout produced for their own version, but the encode to disc will be less compressed and the color regraded, plus better sub translations. Hmm, trying to weigh that double dip but region locked special features sucks

So are they actual full restorations or new scans of the negative; I don’t think Shout indicated any restoration for their releases. Shout seems to underplay the range of color dynamics in their presentation but I’ve never seen the hospital corridors so blue as they are in the Arrow sample.

Special features on a Region B Blu Ray though, I take it. That could be problematic; though missing an extra Blu Ray copy of the film and being mixed on the visual presentation; there’s SOME aspects I prefer from the Shout version when I can compare them, Arrow’s version does seem a nicer package.

YEAH it’s shrimp head and Little B in the new Shout disc, that’s what it is now. But it’s been Dumbo and Mickey Mouse on cable through the Fox Lorber releases at least. Do you know if Arrow’s getting the 2hr20min workprint cut of A Better Tomorrow II as a special feature at all? Miraculous find!

Heh yeah, I was bummed some of the subtitles that used to have a little pizazz in The Killer like when Danny Lee’s partner is hanging off a building and says “Someone’s pointing a gun at my ass!” Changed to “Someone below is aiming a gun at me!” What used to have a little jazz became very clinical.

Can’t get DolbyVision and DolbyAtmos on a PS5. Nor the Shudder app if you’re a fan of that one. But I do use a PS5 for a player. I think one day I may spring for a separate 4K player for that stuff though.

But there are plenty of needle jabs in Scanners and all around that era so that’s probably what it is. I look it up and Omega Man is a vaccine movie though.

It’s not said if it’s a pill, but definitely not a vaccine now that I think about it. I may be confusing it with another banger of a vaccine flick back around that period..
